PREMiERdrum
General Motors has reportedly launched an incentive program that provides a $5,000 to $10,000 bonus to dealers that log test-drives in the Cadillac ELR. The company is also providing new discounts for customers, shaving $3,000 off the plug-in hybrid's $75,000 list price in an attempt to spark demand. The ELR is based on the powertrain that underpins the Chevrolet Volt, which itself has failed to meet initial sales goals. The upscale Cadillac model faces stiff competition from the Tesla Model S, despite its gasoline-powered range extension, and from the lesser Volt and other cheaper hybrids. NickF1011
Multi-thousand dollar bonuses for test drives?? Yeah, can't see that being taken advantage of at all.
fordmantpw
How come GM cannot see something so obvious, but we armchair CEO's had it figured out immediately?
PREMiERdrum
So you have a model from your mass-market, etnry level brand that isn't selling well despite steep discounts. How do you move more volume? You toss in a nicer interior and double the price! Wait, what?
NickF1011
But it has IMAGE!!
rmc523
The dealer down the street from me has one out front. Does that mean I should go drive it?

twintornados
I expect to see ELR's being towed by motorhomes as a "vacation" car when you finally get to the KOA campground and get your AARP discount for the hook ups.
grbeck
The dealer down the street from me has one out front. Does that mean I should go drive it? Only if he splits the $5,000 with you.
sullynd
But it's not $5k per test drive, right? It's got to be something like have 100 test drives in June or something. There's a guy I see most days on my drive in who has an ELR - he had an XLR prior.

I'll give the guy credit: He has an excellent eye conceptually flawed Cadillac vehicles.

PREMiERdrum
Do I hear Cimarron for the trifecta? I'd assume there's a first gen SRX in there somewhere. Perhaps he got that after trading in the Cimarron.
RichardJensen
Do I hear Cimarron for the trifecta? Why not? All three are cramped and based on Chevys.
