Looks like this may be the end for the company. Maybe Ford can pick up Lordstown Motors assets for pennies on the dollar and use them to help accelerate Ford's own BEV pickup truck development? Everything Lordstown Motors has, Ford is doing with Lightning and doing it a lot better.

Yes sir fuzzymoomoo, I agree that F-150 Lightning is at the head of the class right now. My thought was with one of its competitors now effectively gone, Ford could buy that company's assets for cheap. For example, the assembly plant and its equipment in Lordstown, Ohio. If everything works out, having those assets could potentially help speed up Ford's own BEV development and manufacturing.
bzcat
Ford doesn't need the plant and Lordstown doesn't have any other assets. The Endurance pickup was based on GM chassis with off the shelf hub motors purchased from a company in Italy. There is a reason why no established car company is pursuing hub motors... they are notoriously unreliable and difficult to maintain in real life applications. Everyone from VW to Ford to Tesla all have motors mounted on the chassis. Edited June 18, 2021 by bzcat 2
rperez817
Thanks for the explanation bzcat sir. Sounds like Lordstown Motors is not a good acquisition candidate for any other automaker and will likely die soon and be forgotten.
