Following a successful debut that saw the EV pickup garner well over 100,000 reservations, the Ford F-150 Lightning has remained a popular entity among new vehicle shoppers. However, following a recent production ramp up, inventory is starting to improve, particularly after FoMoCo just restarted production at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center following a retooling and expansion. Pricing for both existing dealer inventory and yet-to-be-produced models has since taken a dramatic downward turn, but The Blue Oval also recently took the time to reveal that more trim levels are coming for the EV pickup’s lineup, too.

According to Ford, its increased capacity at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center – which was just tripled to 150k units annually – opens up the opportunity to broaden the number of trim levels offered across the Ford F-150 Lightning lineup. In addition to ramping up production of the popular XLT trim and making more entry-level Pro models available to customers after it was initially sold out for the 2023 model year, Ford notes that it intends to explore adding additional trim levels based on customer feedback thus far.

As for when these new Ford F-150 Lightning trim levels might launch, the automaker would only say that they’re “set to join the lineup soon,” but this move doesn’t really come as a huge surprise. After all, the ICE-powered F-150 is available in a dizzying array of trim levels including the XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Limited, and Tremor, not to mention the Raptor and Raptor R, too.

At the moment, the F-150 Lightning is only available in Pro, XLT, Lariat, and Platinum guise, so there’s certainly room to expand on that particular lineup – perhaps even with an off-road variant for EV fans seeking that sort of enhanced capability.

Tremor and Raptor versions of F-150 Lightning would be sweet! ?

I read an article about a company who lifted a lightning and added 35’s to it, which required a fair amount of customization.  It obviously had different considerations, and wasn’t a matter of slapping a lift on from a standard F150.  But the main takeaway from that exercise was there was a significant reduction in range because of the tire/wheel combo and additional drag of the added ride height, so the range would have to upgraded in someway to accommodate the changes.

While I welcome more diversity and options in your product offerings, I thought Ford was trying to cut down on complexity and trim levels to boost profits, especially in EVs.

Not surprisingly for Ford, they say one thing and then do the exact opposite!

If they want to make these into true off-roaders they need to get the weight down. The curb weight of the current gas Raptor is already knocking on the door of 6,000 lbs. Now figure the difference between a regular gas F-150 and the Lightning and you'd end up with a Raptor knocking on the door of 7,500 lbs! I mean it's not the 9,000 lbs of the Hummer, but 7,500 lbs is a very porky off-roader. They get much heavier your gonna need to call out an Army M88 to recover them when their stuck in the mud. ?
