Biker16
https://insideevs.com/features/739111/state-fees-register-ev-phev/ Quote Manufacturers and dealers play up fuel savings and federal incentives to potential EV customers. However, buyers who follow through on buying an EV may be surprised by an added expense when transferring their plates. Many states — even some that one would characterize as decidedly blue ones that offer generous EV incentives — charge an additional registration fee for electric vehicles. According to the Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuels Data Center, 39 states charge additional fees beyond the standard car registration for an EV, ranging from $50 to $400. Several of those states also charge reduced added registration fees for plug-in hybrid vehicles and hybrid-electric vehicles.
akirby
Seems fair since they’re not paying fuel taxes.

But, I also vote for a fuel tax increase any time it comes up because I know how badly we need the money for roads with increased fuel economy and other factors leading to crappy roads. Related note, my wife works for the department of transportation.
Rick73
A flat annual EV fee doesn’t seem fair either unless it takes vehicle size and use into account. In Texas it doesn’t as far as I know. It should be similar to gas/diesel IMO where the more electricity your EV uses, the more you pay. jeff_h
Yep, an extra $200/yr in WV and that's very close to what I see posted on EV forums from owners in other states. No qualms here, gotta keep the roads paved...
