  1. I could be wrong but I still think this is more about platform efficiency in batteries, aerodynamics, manufacturing - squeezing out as much cost as possible and applying this to all EVs to some degree. I don’t see this team just developing a few new EVs in a vacuum.

  2. And what a refreshing change that would make to the way Ford traditionally does product envelopes, it’s like every project was deliberately limited so it could fit under an anticipated funding level… If the rumours are true, it could spell a massive paradigm shift at Ford but I won’t hold my breath.. If this architecture is as broad as I suspect, it’s no wonder why many projects have been delayed. If I could plagiarise FDR, ”The only thing Ford has to fear is Ford itself.”

  3. Well, the Ford GT and Mustang GTD were skunkworks programs and both turned out pretty damn good.

  4. Hope the driver and anyone else involved in the crash survived. Saw similar carnage from young drivers in new muscle cars back in the 60s, apparently the addition of better tires, disc brakes, ABS, Stability Control, 3 point seat belts, and finally airbags hasn't stopped the stupid from doing stupid stuff.

  5. That’s what I meant; there’s huge difference between designing limited production $300k supercars where profitability may not even be much of an issue, and designing budget-oriented $25~30k profitable BEVs for mass appeal. I’ll be first to acknowledge talent is talent, so let’s hope for the best possible outcome.

  6. Fingers crossed they're able to deliver on this. I'm hoping to see a ton of variety from this platform. Ideally Ford doesn't just give us what we're expecting, some sort of round escape EV and a maverick, and actually offers some surprises that go beyond our expectations.

  7. Well said. I'm just waiting to see what comes out of this skunkworks program and hoping it doesn't get bogged down with layers of management interfering.

  8. I think skunkworks was more about finding ways to cut costs in all aspects from batteries to electronics to the assembly process. Those can be applied to everything going forward. I don’t see it making anything else redundant.

  9. I seriously considered a Crown as my next daily as I yearn to get back into a sedan, but at the end of the day, I just couldn't pull the trigger to buy a Toyota....I hope Ford (or Lincoln) will bring back a proper sedan.

  10. Honestly, put the 3- row things back at Cuautitlan and give Oakville something better to build on a faster timetable.

  11. well, given it’s Ford, they’ll probably give a minor refresh and leave it on the market for 6 more years, sales will dry up and Ford will sit there wondering why a 10+ year old product isn’t selling lol

  12. I'm not. Toyota is the only one I can think of that makes a large IC engine sedan so it's the only place for the customer to go. The sedan buyers that Ford, GM, and others abandoned had to go somewhere. It's like minivans. If everyone made them, then they would be spread thin, but the 4 brands that still make minivans do decently with them. Sedans are kind of the same. There is demand, but not enough for everyone, but when the herd is culled a bit, the ones left over do well.

  13. I don’t know why the forerunner is referred to as a direct competitor to the bronco. Yes, they are both off-road vehicles, but the forerunner doesn’t have a removable top or doors so to me, they don’t compare.

  14. this GT was sold , to a 21 year old kid at approx 5.30 pm, gave him the keys, put my hand on his shoulder and told him to be careful, that thecar has just under 500 horse and can be scary in naive hands....this was less than 5 hours later...BEFORE the rains....
