sprinter
While Rome burns, Obama laughs http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0309/20339.html President Barack Obama said he believes the global financial system remains at risk of implosion with the failure of Citigroup or AIG, which could touch off “an even more destructive recession and potentially depression.” His remarks came in a“60 Minutes” interview in which he was pressed by Steve Kroft for laughing and chuckling several times while discussing the perilous state of the world’s economy. “You're sitting here. And you're— you are laughing. You are laughing about some of these problems. Are people going to look at this and say, ‘I mean, he's sitting there just making jokes about money—’ How do you deal with— I mean: explain. . .” Kroft asked at one point. “Are you punch-drunk?” Kroft said. “No, no. There's gotta be a little gallows humor to get you through the day,” Obama said, with a laugh. Obama tried to inject some optimistic notes into the interview, saying he sees “flickers of hope” that the economy is beginning to turn the corner. suv_guy_19
I think common sense would be enough proof. But then again, every Obama supporter lacks that trait. It's funny that so many people aren't aware of the fact that there is really no such thing as common sense.
Roadtrip
It's funny that so many people aren't aware of the fact that there is really no such thing as common sense. Unfortunately, this seems true. What once passed for common sense, such as living within one's means, striving for independence, and abiding by the traditional rules of personal finance, as well as adhering to the rule of law and common norms of society, seemingly no longer applies. Ironically, people who thought they possessed common sense will be punished severely in the form of future higher taxes and a devalued currency in order to bail out those who they thought lacked common sense. Also, ironically, there was a nifty little pamphlet crafted by a guy named Thomas Paine, called Common Sense, published in 1776, which helped to ignite public sentiment for the American Revolution. The thing about common sense is that everyone thinks they have it...but they all have different ideas about what it is. It may be some kind of sense (sometimes good, and sometimes bad), but there is really nothing common about it.
Trimdingman
Michael Moore is "strongly lobbying"? The whole crew threatened to move up here if Bush won in 2004. It is a good thing that we turned into redneck conservatives. We are going to have to add some security at the border, though. We trained some hounds to sniff out Hollywood types. They were disguised as poodles at the Toronto Film Festival. They know that leftys are poodle lovers, so they took a good whiff of anyone who was overly affectionate or who didn't object to the leg hump. We are prepared if they try to fix our next election. Edstock
We are prepared if they try to fix our next election. Not necessary. Stevie's getting wonderful advice from the back-room US Goppers on how to Do the Dub and as time passes more and more Canucks look forward to the next election, to "fix" Stevie. It's not easy, being Stevie.

94bronco
The only good thing that has come out of the Obama disaster so far is that it bodes very well for a Republican comeback in 2010 when people hopefully begin to pull their heads out of there asses and stop supporting these corrupt lying democrats. Generalization Democrat or Republican is irrelevant as both will at times vote for their favorite project (earmark \ bribe call it what you will) rather than what is best for the citizens. It took both to create this/these fiasco(s) and I'd guess it'll take both to get us out. I'm a registered Democrat but vote Republican and Independent quite often, I don't care what they call themselves but I do care how they vote. The SEC was run by Bush appointees and deregulation of the markets was the Bush way. http://sweetness-light.com/archive/bush-mc...housing-finance The Bush administration today recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago. ”These two entities — Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — are not facing any kind of financial crisis,” said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. ”The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.” Representative Melvin L. Watt, Democrat of North Carolina, agreed. ”I don’t see much other than a shell game going on here, moving something from one agency to another and in the process weakening the bargaining power of poorer families and their ability to get affordable housing,” Mr. Watt said. Yes the Dems were the minority and the Republicans were the majority but the fact remains that the vast majority of the Republicans were the ones who saw it coming while the Dems were completely clueless and are now in charge of everything. Mark B. Morrow
Pop Quiz 94 Bronco. 1. Which Party was in control of both houses of Congress and the Whitehouse on September 11, 2003? 2. What did Barney Frank run on September 11, 2003? Answers: 1. Republicans 2. Nothing. The Democrats did not control a single committee. McCain to his credit was concerned. The Republican majorities killed the proposals. The SEC was "Hands Off" under the Bush regime. There was no Republican constituancy for regulation of the banks or the financial markets. That isn't opinion it is history. Edited March 26, 2009 by Mark B. Morrow

While not all Republicans were aboard with the bills there was still a good amount which is a lot more than can be said for Dems, Also the roots of this mess can be placed squarely on the Dems. Instead we get a misinformed public who votes a man in with no experience at all when it comes to economic matters to fix the economy when all we are going to get is more of the same corruption and horrible economic policies ( Cap and Trade for something that does not even exist). That's just Bullshit. You can keep saying that but it isn't true. The whole deregulation of the economy and markets goes back to Reagan and was pushed forward by Gingrich in '94 and by Delay/Gramm after that. Instead we get a misinformed public who votes a man in with no experience at all when it comes to economic matters to fix the economy when all we are going to get is more of the same corruption and horrible economic policies ( Cap and Trade for something that does not even exist). No one has any experience in the current mess. McCain certainly didn't have any. Bernake and Geithner (at the Federal Reserve) were both Bush appointees. I don't disagree about Cap and trade but I don't think it is going anywhere fast.
