New Mercury Compact

Recommended Posts

The Lnyx nameplate has been dead long enough that few probably remember it. Mystiques are still common and more than a few times I have heard Mercury "Mistake" uttered. However, I think Mystique is a better sounding name for a Mercury, even though it's probably more tarnished at this point.

My money is on "Tracer" at this point... which I think is the best of the 3 that were filed recently (Tracer, Lynx, and Mystique).

It's worth noting that the "Tracer Titanium" mark was just filed in December, along with the rest of the "[model] Titanium" filings.

these threads are getting me dizzy, PREMiERdrum

Tracer

Mystake

Lynx

.

.

.

WHY can't they find a NEW NAME????

then again there's still

Comet

Montego

Monterey even

There's nothing saying that they can't, but I just read through more than 4,000 trademark filings by FoMoCo and nothing else jumped out as a possibility. They would have filed by now, considering the backlog of publishing/opposition dates.

There's always the possibility that they would use a 3rd party to file, but this doesn't seem likely with the other filings they have.

I'd like to see Capri and Montego brought back. Comet is a little too 1960s space age. Capri and Montego would go great with Mariner and Milan.

Montego and Monterey have both been allowed to die. I'm still working on Capri.

When I think of Capri I think of ladies pants or long skinny cigarettes marketed towards women. Montego (like Sable) is a great name, but again those names don't fit the size of the car. Comet sounds too old for a car name in 2010 and there is only one kind of car that the Cougar name would be appropriate for IMHO and this is not it.

Mystique does have a reputation as Mystake... so I guess if you had to pick a name out of this pile Tracer would be the best. Again this is just my opinion.

(Yes I do realize that Tracer rhymes with Pacer, but I don't think anyone would confuse them!)

:P

Tracer is actually a marketing friendly term, it would make sense to use it. It falls in the league of Edge, Flex, Fusion, Focus and other conceptual words that evoke an idea but not prejudice. I still can't help but remember the Escort days however when I hear Tracer, I'm 30 years old and I remember ;)

Ford, you have my approval, you may proceed!

Not that big on Tracer. But hell, I bought a Probe and didn't think twice about the name.

LOL

I for one hate the cat names so I would be pretty mortified if they started that up again.

I despise the naming schemes for Buick and GMC, they would use names like Lynx or Mystique, fits with Acadia, Granite, and LaCrosse *shivers*. And I hate "Malibu", such an ugly word!

And for the record, I don't care for "Mariner" either ;)

It fit when there was a Mountanieer, Avaitor, and Villager in the showroom.

(Well, Villager was replaced by the Monterey by the time the 1st gen Mariner hit the lot, but you get the point)

Yep, I remember the M naming scheme. Mariner, Monterey, Montego, Milan.
