Burned Challenger

Let's not forget that Ford had at least one F150 fire in the assembly plant which led to a recall. Glass houses and stones you know.

True, but in the last 2 days, you have a Durango catch on fire in a parade, a Challenger burn up in the plant and China halts Jeep imports over fire dangers. Chrysler really need to get their arms around this quick before it becomes a real debacle like the Ford's Firestone & cruise control thing or like Toyota's stuck gas pedals.

I'd say they upright that heat lamp and they are all set. (Unless heat lamps are going to be standard or optional equipment, of course)

Fire destroys Sheriff’s newest patrol car

GOLD BEACH – With his fire extinguisher empty and the flames still roaring, all Curry County Sheriff’s Deputy Jared Gray could do was stand and watch as the department’s newest patrol car went up in flames Sunday.

“This was the newest vehicle we had, with less than 6,000 miles,” said Curry County Sheriff John Bishop. “Wished it could have been one that is over 100,000 miles.”

He estimated the car, along with the radar, cameras, radios and other equipment inside it, was worth at least $36,000.

Bishop said the county is self-insured. “I don’t know if we can replace the car or not at this point,” he said.

Gray was responding to an emergency call at 10 a.m. Sunday, driving his 2010 Dodge Charger on Highway 101 near Humbug Mountain south of Port Orford, when it erupted in flames.

Gray stopped the car and took what equipment he could with him, Bishop said.

The car became fully engulfed by fire despite attempts by Gray and Port Orford police to put it out with their fire extinguishers.

Oregon State Police and Port Orford Police responded to assist at the scene. Highway 101 was closed briefly while fire departments battled the fire.

Bishop said the cause of the fire is being investigated.

“As near as we can tell, it started in the passenger wheel well,” Bishop said.

“We are really looking at the brake line in that area which is next to the tail pipe and other hot items,” he said. “When the flames were put down it would start up again, so we are thinking some type of flammable fluid.”

That morning Gray and other authorities were responding to a call of a man who was injured when he fell off rocks at Rocky Point.

Patrick Combs of Norman, Okla., was evacuated from the rocky shoreline area by ambulance and fire rescue personnel, and he was taken from the scene by ambulance.
