RichardJensen
And last, but not least, the Taunus V4 was the engine in the Mustang Concept...
RichardJensen
Actually, before I started assembling this list, I hadn't realized the full extent to which this engine was put to use. Perhaps only the Rover V8 comes close to this engine in terms of breadth of application, and I would say that the Cologne V6 in all its various iterations handily trumps the Rover V8 in volume. twintornados
Just think how far this engine may go if Ford sells the tooling and design specs to a Chinese firm? :poke:
RangerM
I'd thought they used it (for awhile) in the older (Fox) mustangs, as well. Guess I was wrong.
papilgee4evaeva
Prior to 2005, the Mustang used the Essex V6 IIRC. What's interesting is that, for the third-gen Explorers, the performance gap between then V6 and the V8 was rather small.

I've personally owned the 2.8, 2.9 and 4.0 V6s'. I also remember seeing the V4 version in a trail grooming "snow tracker" back in the early 1980s when I lived in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. atomcat68
And my Mustang has that engine. Here it is on the set of a tv pilot. Oh F*** it. For some reason, I can't upload pics now. So, here's a link. Edited December 24, 2011 by atomcat68
silvrsvt
Is it me or does the 1964 taunus grill look like the evos grill?
RichardJensen
I'd thought they used it (for awhile) in the older (Fox) mustangs, as well. Guess I was wrong. They did for part of the '80 model year, but it was supply constrained so they used it the Essex V6 instead.
twintornados
Is it me or does the 1964 taunus grill look like the evos grill? It's the same as saying, "The 'C' scoop on the side of the 64 1/2 Mustang looks a lot like the 'C' scoop on the side of the 2012 Mustang..." Yeah, kinda, but really not.... Kev-Mo
I've owned 3 1986 Ranger 2.9 1998 Explorer 4.0 SOHC 2008 Explorer 4.0 SOHC with VCT For all the beating this engine has taken on this forum, I have no complaints at all, very reliable and they certainly have (had) no trouble doing anything I have asked. I would guess the complainers are the folks who did not own one, and just thought Ford should have had something different.
akirby
We've owned 3 also - a 93 OHV Explorer, a 95 OHV Ranger and a 97 OHC Explorer. Never had a problem.
