FV Chatham
A very noticeable wind noise in my drivers side front door that my dealer can seem to solve, I own a 2013 Escape. Any suggestions,
akirby
If the weatherstrip looks ok use pieces of duct tape to narrow down the spot causing the noise. If you can find it put something behind the weatherstripping to help seal it tighter.
RangerM
My F-150 does the same thing. Haven't figured out if it's the window or door seal. Guess it doesn't bother me so much or I would have done something about it by now. Perhaps the rest of the truck is so quiet it's the most prominent noise. (?) Does your Escape have window deflectors? Edited January 29, 2014 by RangerM

Something I've been meaning to try on my Edge, as it whistles somewhere from the driver's door seal as well, but haven't gotten around to it.

Not sure what I was thinking.
lquidspine
RangerM, let me ask you a question...Super Cab or crew cab? if you own a Super cab check the weather strip at the top were the front and rear doors come together, at that point of contact (both doors meet when shut) feel the rubber weather strip, you should feel it soft around that area but at the point of contact (were both doors come together) you should feel about a 2 inch hard spot. That is called the tootsie roll, if that is not centered were both the front and rear doors come together either you or have your dealer adjust the weather strip so that spot is dead center were both doors come together. If you don't own a Super cab or that does not help have your dealer check the door fit, sometimes the doors can be brought in a bit to ensure a tighter fit between the doors and the weather strip. Or have the dealer check to see if the front door is outboard a little to the fender that can cause wind noise, your front door should be .5mm under flush to the fender, your rear door should be flush or (max) .5mm under flush to the front door. I hope that helps. Edited February 3, 2014 by lquidspine
RangerM
I hope that helps. Thanks for the advice. I have the crew cab. Wind noise tends to originate from near the top of the front door/window where it goes from slant to following the roofline. I'm a hair under 5'10", and trying to get my ear near the source isn't easy. I've never noticed it anywhere else. The window appears perfectly aligned. wildosvt
Open you door and make certain that the seal is stuck on properly. There are pins and double sided tape holding it on. If the tape let go the dealer needs to replace the whole thing.
lquidspine
Wish I could figure out the quote feature /sigh But anyway, what wildosvt said, also take a business card with the door shut run it in that area you think the noise is coming from; if it slides through between the door and the weather strip could be that the door is tweaked out along that curve and would need a slight fit adjustment. RangerM
Door seals appear ok. (at least nothing noticeable) Haven't tried the business card thing. I'm assuming I'd do that from the outside?
lquidspine
Yes from the outside, if you run a business card between the door and the weather-strip with the door shut anywhere it slides through without much pressure is a sign that it is not sealed properly and could be the cause of the minor wind noise you are describing. lourensa
i bought a Kuga 2Lt Dsci (used 9800km on odeometer) 2 weeks ago. whenever i reached 100 km or more on the open roads i hear a 'vibration, above normal wind noise' on the top portion of the back left passenger door/window. i took it to a dealer and they are not sure what is the cause... any similiar problems and suggestions? akirby
Check all the external trim pieces for a loose one and check the rubber seals around all the doors. Also make sure the windows all seal when they're up.

lourensa
thank you Arkiby for response. last night i sat at the back when car was driven and realized the noise was indeed audible around the whole of the backdoor frame towards the back of the boot area. so i think they must indeed take off the backdoor and check whether the door seals are intact. greetings from a sunny South Africa
akirby
You can easily check those yourself. Just look for anything that is crushed, damaged or not attached properly.
transitman
Check the rubber strip that is attached to the rear door and seals the gap between the front and rear door at the B pillar. Sometimes that can fold in when the rear door is closed. Some silicon spray rubbed on to the rubber will solve that problem. Use silicon because WD40 and its petroleum ingredients will break down rubber over time. I also noticed more than once on my 2013 Escape that the strip had pulled out slightly from where it's pushed in to the slot on the rear door. The really safe solution here is Gaffers tape. Strong waterproof and leaves no residue. http://www.amazon.com/Professional-Premium-Grade-Gaffer-GafferPower%C2%AE/dp/B00GZE3UJ8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1423706371&sr=8-2&keywords=gaffers+tape
probowler
Interesting, my 2008 Escape has the same problem. At least Ford is consistent.
lourensa
THE FIRST FORD DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM..checked rubber around rear door and said nothing found. the vibration-noise still there and frustrated! the 2nd Ford Dealership ( SILVERLAKES Mc Carthy Pretoria) find that a plastic cover underneath the left rear part of the car ( that cover or protects the onderstel of the vehicle) was loose and when the vehicle reaches a high speed it vibrates against the body of the car and sounded as if it is the door) they fasten the cover and ....the car drives like a dream, no irritating sound except for the general road/wind noise of the Ford.
