SoonerLS
Looks vaguely like the form of an older ('-04-ish) Super Duty grille and hood under the camo. I wonder what it's running?
old_fairmont_wagon
I'd be shocked if its anything other then the 3.5L EB.
NickF1011
I'd be shocked if its anything other then the 3.5L EB. Why not a unique engine? It's selling in volumes and at a price point that could likely justify it. Perhaps a similar powertrain to the one that will go into the upcoming GT350?
fordmantpw
Or an EcoBoost V8 eventually destined for the Super Duty?
old_fairmont_wagon
I was under the impression that efforts on an EB V8 were pretty much over with. While Ford has a supercharged 5.0L coyote available from Australia, I don't know if it's worth federalizing for that small of a sales volume. While Ford has a supercharged 5.0L coyote available from Australia, I don't know if it's worth federalizing for that small of a sales volume. It was apparently worth it for them to develop the S/C 5.8 for the GT500 which sold in volumes and prices relatively similar to the Raptor. It's almost unthinkable that Ford isn't developing some sort of forced-induction Coyote to replace the supercharged mod motors. It just can't make enough power naturally aspirated to do what we've come to expect from them, at least in terms of the Mustang. No reason that it couldn't be shared with the Raptor as well.
xlmountainman
Something EB or Direct Injection 6.2
NLPRacing
Isn't there a rumor of a Mustang Cobra SVT coming out after the GT350? I could see the Raptor and Cobra sharing the same engine, maybe a Coyote based Supercharged or Twin Turbo DI 5.2L V8.
jpvbs
How about a HO 3.5EB? The current 3.5EB is kind of loafing. It wouldn't take much to get it up to 425hp. It would also work nice as a Navigator engine vs. the standard output 3.5eb in the Expedition.
jpd80
What about broader use of the GT500's S/C 5.8, that would make Raptor and over the top vehicle.
fordmantpw
What about broader use of the GT500's S/C 5.8, that would make Raptor and over the top vehicle. But then I think you are pushing the Raptor out of the reach for many buyers. A HUGE part of the appeal of the Raptor is the fact that it really isn't that much more expensive than a loaded up F150, and it is within the reach of a broad audience. Now, adding the S/C 5.8 as an option may be a possibility. What does that do to the tow rating though? Remember, the Raptor can still tow a hefty amount. What makes you think that a S/C 5.8 cannot be made to tow and still give good power.. We could be over thinking this too, maybe ford keeps the 6.2 exclusively for Raptor (and SD)

I'm not sure how truly broad the audience is that can afford a $52K+ truck...
jpd80
Ford did pus production out to 2,000/month last year and it sounds like Mark Fields wants Raptor to continue in production after Dearborn shuts down....

We could be over thinking this too, maybe ford keeps the 6.2 exclusively for Raptor (and SD) I didn't say it couldn't, just wondering what it would do to the towing. I'm not sure how truly broad the audience is that can afford a $52K+ truck... I lot broader than a $65k+ truck. Seriously, though, the Raptor starts under $45k. You are getting quite a bit of truck for that money. It's only $4500 more than an FX4.

I doubt Ford will resurrect the Cobra name on a Mustang as long as they have the rights to call them Shelbys instead.
Deanh
I'm not sure how truly broad the audience is that can afford a $52K+ truck... considering we are selling them BEFORE they even hit the lot for MSRP plus..AND foreign demand is as it is, the audience is HUGE..... Edstock
AND foreign demand is as it is, the audience is HUGE..... It's probably porn for the gun-truck crowd . . . twin 20 mm cannon would work really well. Ideal for all sorts of places that require 20 mm encouragement — at high speed. I'd like to see one with a B-25-type turret in the bed, just for style. Edited May 12, 2014 by Edstock
jpd80
Lighter body and continued use of 6.2 in Raptor only would make the product even more exclusive/desirable. It sounds like Fields wants to continue Raptor production at Kansas City after Dearborn shuts down for changeover.

You can't price and build now, so I searched local dealers' inventories; $52K was the low-end price around here. Fair price or not, that's still a lot of scratch... DearbornDerek
It sounds like Fields wants to continue Raptor production at Kansas City after Dearborn shuts down for changeover. I've heard before that the Raptor can't go through the system at KCAP...Which could be why our production has more or less doubled...Use to be 3 or 4 an hour, now we are doing about 8 or 9... SoonerLS
considering we are selling them BEFORE they even hit the lot for MSRP plus..AND foreign demand is as it is, the audience is HUGE..... Less than 48,000 units per year isn't exactly huge. I'm also told that it's easy to get deals on them in Texas, but Ford moves so many trucks in Baja Oklahoma that I'd doubt that their truck dealers would have trouble getting all the Raptors they wanted. They would have to assemble the box by hand and it won't fit through their body decker. It's too wide for their system. Ford would have to spend some serious cash to make it happen.
