Lincoln Continental Concept Debuts

Recommended Posts

I'm not saying that, I'm saying there's no way production is starting in the fall. Not if the production version is a 2017 model.

Production dates probably slipped a little. Instead of 4th quarter 2015, you may be looking at 1st quarter 2016. Production for 2017 model year can start as soon as January 2016 for example.

I was wondering if it will have the new 9 speed transmission that has been under co-development with GM?

Probably... depends on the exact timing of the launch.

The 9 speed FWD auto development is lead by GM so GM models will get first crack at using it. It's rumored that it will debut with the next Buick Lacrosse, which is due in 2017 as well.

The 10 speed RWD auto development is lead by Ford so Ford models will get first crack at using it. It's confirmed that it will first be used on the F-150.

Asking around last night to people who are plugged into the situation over at FRAP, the rumor mill concerning any new product coming in there any time soon seems to have gone cold.

That isn't encouraging....I thought there where in the process of ripping out the old Mustang line since it was flexed in with the Fusion now.

That would also mean that there won't be a new Taurus anytime soon either...since I'd assume Chicago is busy with Explorer and PIU builds...wouldn't make much sense to put another platform into that plant at this stage?

Thanks for the info.... When will they come to market?

you got that backwards, the fusion was flexed in on the mustang line. there is no "old" mustang line, its all the same.

But wasn't there two different lines in Flat Rock a few years ago, one for the pre 2014 Mustang and the other for the Mazda 6 when it was built there?

Nope, they were built on the same line, that's why the fusion was able to be built there so easily

I am pretty sure there is a second, unused line there.

Oh Jeezus Fornicating Christ! I made a spelling mistake, not that I do not know how to spell it!

There was a new mandate a couple of years ago that all new Lincoln designs would be blatant (not blantent) copies of existing luxury vehicles.

And nothing original. It certainly does not look like a Lincoln. Strip away all the things like grilles, lights and minor trim and you have a Bentley with a few things moved, stretched or skewed. They just changed it enough to keep them from being sued by Bentley. They might as well be a Chinese knock-off copycat manufacturer. They probably did a stupid thing like this for the Chinese market in the first place.

I see a mix of different vehicles: Jaguar grille, Aston Martin taillights, also it looks like a Bentley Continental.....of course nothing bad at all

People going into an Audi dealer don't go in expecting to find a car that looks like a Bentley, Jaguar, BMW or Mercedes. Those luxury brands have been really good about making sure you don't mistake their vehicles for anything else.

I'm getting a flashback to the Lincoln LS that came out looking like a Mitsubishi Galant and Diamante.

Yet others see Audi A8..

I think that the more Ford worked on the styling, the more it came back into what most luxury buyers would expect to see..

As long as it's a good looking design, it won't matter whether it resembles something else.

Oh Gag! That is as absurd as sampling someone else's music and calling it original artistry. Why defend laziness and mediocrity? If you cannot be original then get the hell out!

Real Lincoln basic bitches! At least it looks like nothing else!

It's all about sales and profits, not winning an award for originality. Look at the comments on the interwebs - overwhelmingly positive, and from people who have never praised Lincoln before. Artistry shmartistry.

IMO, Lincoln is long overdue for a face lift..... and they hit the ball outta the park with this..

Cadillac is aiming to be the next BMW..... Is Ford aiming to be the next Bently?

Perhaps not.... but they are aiming much, much higher.... We now see their vision, now we wait to see how they deliver it....

That's because they are fools enamoured with what looks like a luxury car that already exists that they cannot afford and ddevelop grandious notions about the fact that they can get it for cheaper. That's the faux allure of the Chrysler 300 and why it has been selling for so many years.

More flashbacks... The 1982 Lincoln Continental that tried to look like a Seville that looked like an old bustleback Rolls Royce. That worked so well.

Lincoln: We would like to make our last ditch attempt to compete with the premium luxury import car market but we are not allowed to take a Ford and rebadge it and regrille it anymore. We must choose someone else's luxury car like a Bentley and pretend we are rebadging and regrilling it to make it something we can market in a Lincoln showroom. However we must spend millions to manufacture our own copy of the Bentley so we can badge it and grille it as a Lincoln. We will likely have to plop it on an existing Ford front wheel drive platform with all wheel drive capability.

Cadillac: We want to compete with the premium import luxury car market. We want Cadillac to be defined as Premium American Luxury and get back to our famous Standard Of The World status that inspired the affluent and flambouyant of yesteryear to drive and write songs about them. However we also want to win over traditional premium luxury import buyers. We would like to aim for BMW in performance and driving dynamics which includes engineering new rear wheel drive platforms that can provide that BMW performance and driving experience. We wil build on our success of styling modern Cadillacs with a continued evolution of our unique Art and Science forms which utilize classic hallmarks of Cadillac design like bold eggcrate grilles, powerdome hoods, bladed front fender edges and sweeping front to back beltlines, vertical bladed wrapped around taillamps, sharp intersecting edges and uncluttered surfaces. Our products distinctly look like Cadillacs even from afar and are not easliy mistaken for any one else's design.

That Zephyr/MKZ was a repeat of a past mistake called the Lincoln Versailles which was a lipstick on a pig Granada/Monarch sedan. It even had the same shaped taillamps as the Versailles but blown up to cover it's tall fat boxy ass. Lincoln didn't learn the first time they harvested a run of the mill Ford-Mercury midsized sedan to put Lincoln grille and badges on it.

And yet they continue to blow BILLIONS of dollars on cars with shrinking sales numbers!

In all seriousness, Lincoln was getting fucked over since the late 1990s when it was integrated into PAG, then taken out of it. The Zephyr/MKZ at first was an attempt to keep customers coming into a Lincoln dealership...it was also done during the time when Ford was in seriously bad shape also. I was just looking at the first gen MKZ and the interior was just terrible in it...not Luxury at all.

Thankfully those days are behind Lincoln.
