5.2 VooDoo
Understood... I have a GT 350...the engine sounds normal to me as it has since day one. However if you wanted to make an argument that it sounds like a "typewriter" you very well could...to my ear its the fuel injectors responsible for the noise. KeyLime
Let's really go down the rabbit hole and talk about the infamous 2k rattle.

But it seams to happen after an oil change. So I doubt it has anything to do with the injectors.
ryant601
Ceratec if it really bothers you, and call it a day. My '16 GT had the tick basically from the first oil change until I sold it this past summer. That said, I have a F-150 5.0 on order and fully expect it to tick too. It's really a badge of honor in my opinion, I understand folks want their $50k car to sound smooth and quiet...but they're just not.
traxiii
I've also heard the sound described as Barbecue Tick, like the sound your grill makes when you turn off the gas and the metal is cooling off.

I change my own oil and use Motorcraft 5W-30 synthetic blend oil and filters. They say it doesn't cause any harm but it is annoying my friends F150 does it. brucelinc
All injectors tick but some 5.0s have an additional tick besides the injectors. There is a lot of controversy on the cause but it usually presents itself after an oil change. My Mustang never had that tick but I was in a Mustang club and several members definitely had it. Ford says it is not harmful to the engine and calls it normal. Adding Ceratec to the oil has been known to stop it. I have witnessed that myself but do not have an explanation for how or why it works.

Then perhaps they should figure out a real solution, because it’s annoying as hell and sounds like your engine is going south. I had an F150 that my son drove that had it and it was a major irrigation for me. It also makes people ask what’s wrong with your truck. I took it to a dealer and they said the motor needed replaced, but we continued to drive it for several thousand miles without it blowing up. So was it a shady dealer or is it normal? What the tick does not do is instill confidence in your vehicle.
