There is a huge difference between affordable and cheap cars. 

It makes it possible whereas the old rules made it almost impossible.  Someone will fill that void but don't expect to see $11k Nissan Versas.  Affordable doesn't mean cheap sedans or tiny cars.

They do it because they get away with it.  Most buyers either don't know or don't care and the few that do are offset by the cost savings.  For us it's frustrating but we're the tiny minority.

We're going to be waiting a long time before we see affordable cars from this industry.

If it will be produced in Spain, it will most likely only be sold in Europe and maybe some select markets like Australia where it will be overpriced. Lol Asia-Pacific markets will need one built in a regional plant. It's a bonus too if it had a version that isn't a plug-in, a lower-priced full hybrid is probably better.

This Toyota seems interesting, front-mid engine, rear-wheel drive with a transaxle, and aluminum construction. It's powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 with a single electric motor integrated into its transaxle. It should produce 640hp or greater, and 627lb-ft or greater of torque. Its target weight of 1750kg (3858lbs) or less isn't too bad since it's a hybrid. While personally I'm not a fan of this, in the grand scheme of things how many buyers are actually noticing this? I can point out so many cases of people buying different things and not actually using the item or even knowing about it. I could change the color of my lighting in my Mustang and in my SHO-does it really impact what the car can do? Nah. Also keep in mind articles like this are more or less "hit pieces" to drive traffic to a website for advertising-articles on MSN/Yahoo etc are often just republished articles from other websites-I know this because some sites are filtered at work (say gaming websites) but if they are under MSN/Yahoo I can see them.    The only thing I've noticed over the past 10-15 years that made me go WTH was my wifes Bronco Sport only has single temp control vs dual temp control for the HVAC, but in the grand scheme of things, for a car that is going to have only one person in it 90% of the time, do you actually need it?
