Took a few outdoor photos with the different wheels and tires today. Definitely need to adjust the ride height sensors to drop it down a bit. Seriously considering painting the stainless wheel arch trim body color as well. On the later SE models just about all of the body trim including the bumpers was painted body color. Not saying I would go that far but it definitely gives these cars a much more sinister look.
Turns out all of those used doors that I thought I had found were actually just the same door listed by multiple yards. They all had the same stock number for the donor truck and every listing had the same photos and description. That same door was also listed on eBay by one of the recyclers from Florida.
I was in the process of negotiating offers for that door on eBay when I decided to give my local Ford dealer one more call just to make sure they had not found a door and if they had not I was going to tell them that I was taking the work to another shop. After making that call I would then complete the purchase on eBay. As a matter fact, I had already told the dealer the day before what my alternate plan was and that I had already found a used door but would wait one more day before making a final decision. That apparently lit a fire under their butts.
What happened next was crazy. When I picked up my phone to call the dealer it started ringing with an incoming call. I kid you not it was from the dealer! Their estimator Shaun said "Hey, guess what? I pulled a few strings and found a new door."
The new schedule to drop the truck off at the dealer is 12/29. Whew, talk about cutting it close! I should have gone right out and bought a lottery ticket. 😁
Would a Bronco pickup have removable doors and roof like the Bronco? Seems like it would to achieve the economy of scale you are suggesting. And if that is the case, then my enthusiasm for a Bronco pickup would completely evaporate.
Exactly, and this got much worse during the previous 4 years with the CAFE requirements escalating to a point which was designed to force manufactures and buyers to EVs (a backdoor mandate). Plus having to buy carbon credits from Tesla and Rivian.
And to be clear back to you, most of those other vehicles add little profit beyond
recovering the already spent development and production costs. And then warranty costs on top.
Opportunity cost.
If Ford didn’t have to spend money on developing and producing those other vehicles,
it could invest the money elsewhere for a better recovery, like paying down other debts…
To be clear, reducing Ford to only these vehicles would not increase profits but would increase margins.
This could only be true if every vehicle Ford produce except these lost money.
I am talking about maximizing through shared body panels and interior items. I am sure they do share parts, but by sharing panels and interiors, it spreads out the economy of scale significantly.
