Correct, most domestic European Manufacturers are stuck, fighting highly aggressive Chinese brands that seem to cover their markets with cheaper pricing, not sure how long they can rely on parochial loyalty.. The Chinese basically stuck to the task of developing electric vehicles and their government weighed in heavily to make them keep going. Its like Europe wants to be clean and green but manufacturers dawdled their way into bigger better competition.

We'll have to see how it plays out. I believe we're gonna see a real clear divide between the Chinese brands undercutting everyone on cost, and legacy brands like Ford trying to appeal with higher prices, but more emotional and aspirational products. -

European market is tough. Mostly smaller vehicles that don't necessarily work in other regions. Not to mention cheap imports. Even the domestic mfrs are struggling. It's not an accident that GM never entered the Euro market. Instead they partnered with or bought existing european brands or brought in cheap Korean brands. Add to that the political unrest and europe is ptobably the last place I would want to invest as an automotive CEO.

To European eyes, the CE1 is more of a regular mid sized vehicle so probably a touch too large but I agree, Ford appears confused about its BEV mission in Europe, Puma BEV looks good though…

No they simply cannot compete because their mindset is all screwed up, the Chinese brands just seem less encumbered by ICE history - less important. European brands are getting killed by Tesla and Chinese brands, VW in particular is suffering heavy losses…the “rapture” is almost here for them.

It was interesting that initially, some of the major western brands did well there as Chinese buyers saw luxury brands as desirable, GM even ding well with both Buick and Cadillac- Ford critisized during early Mulally takeover days for not being aggressive enough with developing its Chinese production and showrooms. Funny how all of that true with ICE vehicles was flipped on its head with mandatory changes to electrified vehicles, Europeand, Asian and American brands simply could not effectively pivot quickly enough plus China’s battery makers made it impossible to compete save for Resla.

Lately, some Chinese automakers like Chery for example don't even care about entering the USA anymore. I think it was Sandy Munro who said the US/western automakers have become complacent.
