there is a small chance we fell asleep before he read my post - it was late in UK by then

 

but it IS true .. sure the labor is cheaper, but Ford once said they save as much a $3,000 per fusion imported to Brazil and Argentina .. that is A GIANT amount .. it is giant on the Fusion, and doubly that on a $12k Fiesta.

 

we all should thank our congress ... it really is that simple.

 

(oh and for the complete disclosure - the Bahia plant in Brazil will NOT tool up for the new Fiesta - it will only produce fiesta-derivatives: EcoSport and the new B-Max ... the reason being - it was woefully overcapacity for the demand in south america)

I can't wait until i can test drive this car. I always held off on gettin a smaller more fuel efficient car because they were boring to drive, boring on the outiside and had a bargin bin interior.

 

This car, however, is hitting it out of the park everywhere. I love the looks. That interior is just fantastic and from what i hear they are pretty fun to drive too... all that and a slick DSG style gear box? Sign me up!!

it is exports ALL OVER LATIN AMERICA ... go look at our treaties with Brazil, Argentina, and any other country down south. With the exception of Mexico - ALL have tarrifs on US built products imported.

 

thank your congress - as with the Fusion - if Ford plans to sell it south of Mexico - it will be built in Mexico - especially a B-car - MOST of the demand will be down there .. not in US or Canada ..

Ford of Europe has Mondeo plants scattered all around Europe and not just one plant, so why can't you have one Fiesta plant based in Detroit.

Whoever challenged me on my "thank your congress quote" - Congress approves foreign trade treaties - it makes no sense that Brazil can import freely into US, but US built products have about 10-20% import tarriff on them - we are the biggest consumer in the world - we should have import tarriffs - we are such a desirable market for foreign producers, we can dictate our conditions - which is why it makes NO SENSE - that US has so fre export opportunities - Congress was paid off not to care about it and it is hurting America more than the mortgage crisis, because it is costing US tens of thousands of jobs.

 

about multiple plants .... Ford have plants that are able to build about 400k units per month. Ford will have 2 such plants for Fiesta products in the Americas: the Cuatitlan for Fiesta and Bahia (Brazil) for the derivatives. totalling about 800k units per year is about the most optimistic ofrecast for demand of that car on this continent. Makes no sense to build more plants and have them run at half capacity. It also makes no sense to have US plant just for patriotic reasons. Ford will build Focus for US, and Europe in US starting in 2010 .. that is their patriotic move ... between Focus and its cousins (C0-Max and Kuga) Ford will have 3 plants inthe US.

The US actually has several tariffs already in place against Brazil, the most notable of which is a pretty stiff tariff on ethanol. It's hardly a free ride.
