atvman
So here's what I'm gathering as the future of the Mustang, let me know if I'm close or not 2010 - New styling, new interior, suspension upgrades 2011 - New power trains 2012 - Potential Boss variant 2013-2014 - Model update, potential IRS as option or standard On to 2011 PT's 3.7L - 315hp, 275-300lb-ft 5.0L - 400hp, 400lb-ft 5.4L - Switch to Al with marginal power increase Six speeds across the board Potential addition of 3.5L EcoBoost in 2012-2014 Potential addition of DSG in 2012-2014
Devodev
I guess the DSG will be later along that 2014 or later range. Seems like the small cars are soaking up the Powershift transmissions at this point. I'd be more convinced on the new American "musclecars" getting one when it appears on something like the Vette first.

Keeping the Mustang on such a cycle also enables Ford to amortize development costs over a larger production volume. Of course, everything is subject to change based on what the competition does and other changes in the Market!

T'Cal
Is the 5.0 supposed to have AFM? The automatic equipped Challenger R/T and Camaro SS currently have a version of it. Translation: active fuel management
05fordgt
I have heard that a MACH1 is coming. Not a BOSS. Don't know where you heard that, but all the rumors and info that I have seen posted on TheMustangSource.com says the 2012 model year will be when the BOSS returns. And as many know, Brad's site is VERY VERY ACCURATE! His contacts at Ford are GOOD!!

Translation: active fuel management I doubt it, the cost and complexity of it in an OHC application aren't worth the modest increase in FE. Translation: active fuel management active fuel management? is that like displacement on demand? the hemi and ss engines are different engine designs...much easier to "shut off" cylinders in those applications. no major new designs coming up..but watch for new pt's. 5.0 5.0 boosted there's an anniversary coming up to. watch for something really cool for that. Tornado
2012 adds: EB 2.0L as the base Boss - with a small bump in horsepower over 5.0L GT engine, road racing IRS and big brakes - Think Cobra R I see Ford tempting alot of 4.6L GT drivers into the 3.7L to boost CAFE numbers and making V-8 lovers pay alittle more. Versa-Tech
Sorry but perhaps I'm missing something. DSG? It always drives me crazy when so many posters use abbreviations, etc. DSG stands for Dual Sequential Gearbox. VW uses DCT or Dual Clutch Transmission. Porsche uses PDK or Porsche Doppelkupplung. Basically, these are all just fancy names for manual transmissions with automatic clutch engagement.

joihan777
After reading a few posts regarding smaller V6 engines, I think the future Mustang will have: Base- 2.7L EB ~ 300hp GT- 3.7L EB ~ 400hp GT500- 5.0L EB ~ 500hp And a little further down the line: Option on Base model, a hybrid alternative that gives 'some' semblance of performance. donzuchowski
for the big b-day i would like the new model to be a retro edition of the Mustang II from the 1970's. I always loved that look.
T'Cal
Ya know, the current 4.6L 3V V8 is still a pretty good motor. Every article I've read about the 2010 GT raves about its strong pull and great sound. I wouldn't if Ford kept it for the GT but updated it with Ti-VCT and the 6 speed transmissions for better performance and economy. Then they could use the new 5.0L 4V V8 as the standard plant in a model above the GT such as a Boss 302.
