BORG
Another clever click-bait article, no effort was actually put into it. Detroit, F-150, and Steve Jobs at the top of that list is legit though If I had to make a top list of what I feel are the most historic and influential people/things/locations from the US...or what inspires me as an American... The US Constitution The US Military Abraham Lincoln Martin Luther King Jr. John F. Kennedy Barack Obama Henry Ford Steve Jobs Bill Gates National Parks Highway System Skyscrapers Hoover Dam NASA Golden Gate Bridge Washington D.C. Grand Canyon Mississippi River Great Lakes Alaska Hawaii Smithsonian Library of Congress New York Chicago Boeing Apple IBM Ford GM Microsoft Hollywood Rock & Roll Jazz Electric Guitar Blue Jeans/Denim Steven Spielberg George Lucas Star Trek Star Wars Michael Jackson Elvis Presley CocaCola Baseball Mustang Corvette F-150 Jeep Wrangler Edited July 3, 2011 by BORG

2005Explorer
I love the F-150. Without the F-Series there would be no FoMoCo. We can talk all we want about how important each product is for the company and they are all important in one way or another, however the F-Series is what keeps the bills paid and the lights on every month. 2005Explorer
No. 1 on that list: "Opportunity" Half the country doesn't believe that anymore. I have also seen in polls lately that over half the country also believes that we are in permanent economic decline so if they feel that way it's not surprising that people are not feeling too positive about opportunity these days. timmm55
Bill Gates? Michael Jackson? Obama? It's his list! I tend to agree with him. I'm an ardent Democrat, but I've always liked Barry Goldwater's politics and demeanor......at least later in his life.

Happy Independence Day to all on BON Exxon Mobil is #88. The best thing about America--other than the opportunity it affords those willing to take advantage of it--is its ability to correct its mistakes. And btw, you might appreciate #29. xargos
Okay, I'm sure this will mark me as a geek. Then again, I already call myself one. I would add Atari to the list of the best things about the USA. If it weren't for them, who knows if or when video games would have actually become popular?

xargos
I think "Freedom" is the greatest thing about America. I'll give you that it is great, but can you call it a "thing?" It isn't really something tangible as much as it is a concept.
BORG
I probably should add few more things to that list... Again these are all things that are uniquely American and define our culture and influence those around the world. Mark Twain Google (God, how can I forget Google!!!) suv_guy_19
Well, if you look at the success of the former colonies of the UK (Canada, Australia, South Africa, the United States of America, New Zealand, Fiji, etc.) versus the former colonies of France (although to be fair, Canada was also a colony of France), it just seems that one had the better idea's that resulted in more free people. That said, both the UK and France had positive influences when it came to freedom and democracy, but some very negative influences overall. Noah Harbinger
Actually, it came from here, definitely not England! Viva La Liberty! The Enlightenment principles on which the USA was founded came from intellectuals in many countries. The countries themselves don't deserve much credit.
