JasonM
Good to know there's finally a rational, efficient, and sustainable energy policy in this country. Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne said that the automaker will lose $10,000 for each 500 e EV it sells. http://www.inautonews.com/fiat-will-lose-10000-foe-each-500e-sold That makes a $10,000 loss for Fiat and up to a $10,000 loss for taxpayers ($7500 Fed, $2500 CA) I wonder what the numbers are for the Focus Electric? RichardJensen
Well, it's Sergio: Adjust your opinions on the basis of his tendency to exaggerate and Fiat's poor management....
Guest abjb
Well, it's Sergio: Adjust your opinions on the basis of his tendency to exaggerate and Fiat's poor management.... What's your favorite Fiat? Here's a picture of my favorite Fiat (Rosso Corsa) http://www.globalvillagedirectory.info/Italy/Turin/Fiat-Group.aspx Surprisingly there's one for sale on AutoTrader. http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?zip=76126&endYear=2014&showcaseOwnerId=0&startYear=1981&makeCode1=FER&sellerTypes=b&searchRadius=0&mmt=%5BFER%5B%5D%5B%5D%5D&listingId=336854527&listingIndex=1&Log=0
RichardJensen
Oh, I dunno. I'm a sucker for the last models styled under the oversight of Leonardo Fioravanti (Daytona, Berlinetta, 308) and some of Pininfarina's other designs from that period (the Testarossa by Renzo Carli to name one)
akirby
I had a Fiat 500 rental car this past week. What a horrible little car.

I talked to a Ford engineer last spring at a graduation party. She works in the hybrid/electric vehicle section and was quite proud of the then-new Focus electric. She also lamented that "We're going to lose money on every one." She didn't say how much though.

grbeck
I had a Fiat 500 rental car this past week. What a horrible little car. Really? I'm curious as to what made it so awful. I've been seeing more of them around here in the past two months. Edited April 20, 2013 by grbeck
twintornados
If you are losing 10k on every unit sold...you are doing it wrong.....
akirby
Really? I'm curious as to what made it so awful. I've been seeing more of them around here in the past two months. No power at all. Hard to reach the seatbelt. Very little suspension travel/shock absorption. Stupid zig-zag gated shifter. Horn honks when you hit the lock button once. Funky inset speedo/tach. It's cute but definitely not what I'd call "fun to drive". And I don't think the Abarth option would change most of that.
jpd80
Maybe it's better for all concerned if Fiat sell as few of the 500e as possible...
Moosetang
I had a Fiat 500 rental car this past week. What a horrible little car. I rode in the back of a 500 recently. I was not amused.
timmm55
If you are losing 10k on every unit sold...you are doing it wrong..... Yes if it's on a mainstream car that sells 300K units a year. Not so bad if it's 20K units of a hybrid/electric/experimental vehicle.

PREMiERdrum
I had a Fiat 500 rental car this past week. What a horrible little car. I was shocked at the number of 500s and Sparks I saw in Orlando this last week - all with rental barcodes. Are these tiny little bugs the new "subcompact" option?
