On the up side, F Series Average Transation Prices have increased $2,100 year on year

so over 67,000 sales, that's a ton more ($134M) without ever building all those extra units.

Awesome how many billions more did it cost to develop that product? How much extra does it cost to build the new F150 vs the old f150?

Let's make it easier, how much profit does GM make in Nth America versus Ford?...

 

We know that GM makes on average 30,000 to 40,000 more vehicles a month in North America, correct?

So go back and and compare Ford and GM's profit in Nth America the past five years and then ask yourself,

.where's all the profit compared to Ford....

 

Ford has spent a lot of money on F150 but the bigger question should be where has all of GM's profit gone.

2015 looks like a good playing field for both companies. Both had big issues in 2014. The super segment for both companies is trucks and SUV's.

They generate the profit and more importantly the free cash flow. Ford won in 2014. Ford made 6.898 billion in 2014 in North America. Ford sold 2.842

million units in 2014. Average price to dealer $28993, average profit per unit was $2427. So how do you get to the average? Fords margins were 8.4%

in 2014 and are hoping for 9% in 2015. GM made a lot less per unit in 2014. (more units less profit). The answer is $2427. All figures are from the latest Ford financial statements. So how do you get to $2427?

I know that GMNA's Full-year EBIT-adjusted was $6.6 billion, which included the impact of $2.4 billion in recall-related costs in 2014.

 

So it's clear, GM suffered badly because of the recall. that $2.4 billion would have given GMNA $9 billion before tax....

That compares to EBIT-adjusted of $7.5 billion in 2013 so without the recall disaster, GM was on course for a strong year.

 

So biker, it looks like there is an awful lot of profit coming from those SUVS and large trucks, GM just has to learn how to keep it.

 

Also, there's gotta be a lesson there to Ford to keep going with Larger Utilities like Expedition and maybe Ford could look at

bringing back a new Excursion with 6.7 diesel for some real profit....What would we call the Lincoln version, Dominator?

A major caveat w/GM is that--AFAIK--they had no significant factory downtime for retooling, nor any of the expenses associated with launching a major new product.

 

In short, that $9B represents a sort of 'best-case-scenario' for GM; a high water mark for profitability. By contrast, Ford incurred significant costs in 2014; comparing margins for 2014 is a bit misleading.

Accord in to Ford's 2014 announcement, it was down about $1.9 billion compared with 2013

but Ford is predicting 2015 result to be back up around $8.5 billion to $9.5 Billion..

While the workhorse SRX 5,000 and XTS 2,367 are treated with contempt

 

 

Transit 9.751.

 

So much for internet experts predicting that lower E Series could never be replaced...

 

It has not replaced the E-Series because the E is still in production doing the heavy work the Transit can't.

Last year the E sold 11,642 vs 9,751 for the Transit this year.

Without the additional 6,204 cutaway E-Series this year full size van sales would be in the red if Ford had only the Transit.

 

The good news is the two combined have moved total sales forward.

A lot of internet experts were clinging to the notion that Transit would fail and that a lot of the sales would go elsewhere,

I know E series Super Duty is staying for now and that is a good thing but really after a few short months Transit is off

to a flying start. it just shows how well Ford knows its van customers and gives them what they want.

F250...YES the Transit has replaced the Econoline......450 and up cahassis...ie Cube vans only account for a small percentage of van sales....and the only reason they outsold the Transit initially was consumer fear of change and pathetic Transit stock....and I mean pathetic...its STILL sub par....

If Escape, Explorer and F series in short supply, then Ford should phase out the Edge and Flexx [why bother with these?] for the more popular Utilites. Toyota is dropping the Venza, and Honda's Crosstour is 'dead man walking'. Cut the excess fat and sell more winners.

 

And I agree that the C-Max is a flop and should get cut, what a waste. Bring back Escape hybrid.

 

Why discontinue a profitable product?

 

do you think buyers will migrate to another one of your products or move to another brand completely?

 

There is risk of dropping a product and losing that profit, and that revenue, because the buyer goes to another brand.

He's on crack if he thinks the Explorer is a waste of energy, but in the case of C-Max, it's evident it's going nowhere fast. There is strong rumor that there's a replacement for it coming in the next few years. It's also due for its MCE for MY2016 so it remains to be seen if that helps at all.

You seem to have a sense of entitlement that others should do the skull-sweat so you can have figures to prove something or other. :)

 

becuase no one is asking the question, increased ATP without knowing the Cost, only tells half the Story.

 

GM is making a killing on their large SUVs, and with extremely high parts commonality between their 1500, 2500, 3500 trucks and their SUVs, they have been able to keep a update schedule that ford hasn't with their large and SUVs and F-250s.

 

My question since I am asking questions is....

 

what will Ford's response be to the new STEEL Malibu which will be up to 400lbs lighter than the Fusion?

 

which was more impressive the Lincoln Continental concept or the Cadilac CT6 which is size of the BMW 7 series but lighter than the 5 Series, RWD aluminum and 400hp.

In fairness biker, I don't think CT6 can be compared to Continental yet because of the latter being a concept at this stage. Yes it's pretty much what the production version will be but how much of the bells and whistles make it to production, as well as engine choices and other specs aren't available publicly yet.

Expedition has been bespoke since MY2003, which brougt with in IRS and the fold flat 3rd row.

 

It's widely accepted that the next all-new Expedition will share much more with the F-150 than the ourgoing model. Wether or not that means they'll share a platform remains to be seen. I certainly hope the Expedition keeps the fold flat 3rd row.
