banker55
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder aneekr. Edge volume in the EIGHTH and final year for the platform was 109k. Do you have *any* idea how profitable that vehicle is? If ATPs on that thing are $30k, you're looking at $3.27 billion dollars in revenue from a platform that has been around for eight years, in its final year. Oakville built 255924 units in 2012 and 258358 in 2013. In 2014 Ford added 1000 employees and announced another 400 for 2015.

Doubtful, the base SE Fwd 2014 starts at $28,100. Most units we sell are well equipped Limited and SEL's with stickers between 38-45k. I'd wager the ATP is much closer to 40k than it is to 30k. He was just making a quick guesstimate for arguments sake and to prove a point that there's absolutely no reason for Ford to just stop making them "just because." RichardJensen
I'd wager the ATP is much closer to 40k than it is to 30k. That's where my estimate is as well, but I went w/$30k because I don't think that number can be seriously called into question.
630land
Crosstour and Venza dying should give Ford [or others] a warning, even an SUV from Japan can flop. If they have products that don't increase sales, then say bye. It it's working, then keep. "ATP of $30k? Doubtful" Yeah, who buys any Ford at full sticker? Maybe when all new, but for how long after can that sustain? After the newness wears off, what then? rmc523
What's with all the sudden hate for the Edge? The vehicle was/is at the end of its lifecycle. Obviously sales will have decreased. It just received a full redesign for the first time, which should increase both sales AND transaction prices.

It's not 1995 anymore and it's not BOF so the people stuck in the 90s and 00s don't like it.

Do you honestly think that the *average* transaction price for the Edge is barely over 100% of the cheapest model available?
jpd80
Starting MSRP for Edge is $28K, it's more than likely the ATP is +$3K is greater... Edited April 11, 2015 by jpd80
probowler
But Ford should sell a Fusion wagon in North America. Yeah right. To be fair to wagons, this thing looks more like a sedan with ass cancer than a wagon Edited April 11, 2015 by probowler
630land
I just think the Edge is wasteful packaging, and redundant compared to the Es/Ex. But hey, shows I don't think all Ford products are 'perfection' like "Brand G" fanatics. Since some have posts facts that support the truck's profits, I won't post any more about topic. But sure am going to post that the Honda Crosstour was one of their worst flops, since the Accord wagon of the 90's. [Oh no, wagon fans will get offended!]
akirby
Speaking as someone whose wife has owned 2 explorers, an expedition, an Aviator, an Edge and now an Escape - Edge is the sweet spot of the utility market right now. We'll probably trade our escape for an edge in the next couple of years. Edge is simply more comfortable and accomodates a lot of cargo that the Escape can't handle without being too large like Explorer or Expy. Just like Fusion outsells Focus and Taurus. 630land
But, the Edge doesn't 'outsell' the Es/Ex, just sayin. ;-)
akirby
But, the Edge doesn't 'outsell' the Es/Ex, just sayin. ;-) Wow - you're right. I thought for sure the Edge outsold the Explorer. Still enough worldwide volume for one plant though including MKX.

papilgee4evaeva
Whichever one sucks at being sold. Or whichever one is on a lame-duck platform. So, Mazda?
