fordmantpw
Hey, we don't have money to redo our most important, most money-making vehicle, our trucks, but lets spend bunches a money on a car that's going to sell a few thousand a year. That makes sense, right??
silvrsvt
They are giving it more power, but how much of an actual difference is it going to make...or is it just going to be translated in tire smoke?

Anthony
I think lightweighting and better handling would be a much better goal than more power. I think they are just giving the existing Challenger one last hurrah before the next gen in 2020 until it gets a bit smaller. Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne on Monday confirmed that the company’s all-new Giorgio platform is planned to underpin the next generation of the vehicles, which is underpinning the Alfa Romeo midsize Giulia sedan and Stelvio SUV.http://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/detroit-auto-show/2017/01/12/dodge-resurrects-demon-next-hellcat/96470136/

Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne on Monday confirmed that the company’s all-new Giorgio platform is planned to underpin the next generation of the vehicles, which is underpinning the Alfa Romeo midsize Giulia sedan - which is selling like hotcakes - and Stelvio SUV. Fixed that for them.

PAY NO ATTENTION TO OUR FINANCES, OUR SHRINKING LINE OF PASSENGER CARS, OUR HORRIBLE FUEL ECONOMY Well, Ford last all-new car besides Continental was the current Fusion.... . If everyone's buying trucks and utilities and the full-size cars are to get a new platform FCA may not be as behind as thought.
akirby
2015 Mustang, depending on your definition of all-new. Cars help amortize crossover platforms. And a good C and C/D car would easily yield 200K - 300K a year at a reasonable profit on a shared platform. I think they would do best with RAM full-sized and mid-sized trucks and full and mid-sized vans and leaving Dodge to cover cars, crossovers and Pacifica to go along with Jeep. Jettison the rest. akirby
Name the passenger cars that Ford has canceled. Cougar and Panthers. All the rest were replaced with something newer. Continental -> LS -> Zephyr -> MKZ. Taurus -> Five Hundred -> Taurus. Escort -> Focus.
BORG
Cougar and Panthers. All the rest were replaced with something newer. Continental -> LS -> Zephyr -> MKZ. Taurus -> Five Hundred -> Taurus. Escort -> Focus. If you're going that far back than Contour is the most significant passenger sedan that Ford dropped without a successor (at least for 6 years). Taurus really had two successors (Fusion and Five Hundred) but not a direct successor. I also think it's a stretch to say LS was a successor to Continental since it was considerably smaller and was sold alongside it for a period. So yeah, Ford has a long tumultuous product history of just dropping products and getting back to them MUCH later. Nothing quite resembles Chrysler just exiting a segment like this, although Ford did it with minivans and small trucks. Fgts
Name the passenger cars that Ford has canceled. So they cancelled them and they had their reasons as pointed out before (not making money as the trucks).
