SoonerLS
diesels actually cheaper here in So Cal than Regular gas.....go figure....... In the civilized parts of the world, even when gas prices have spiked they haven't overtaken diesel. It has been well over a decade since diesel was less than gasoline around here. silvrsvt
Diesel is the same price as unleaded premium here. Same here-but I'm wondering if tax has anything to do with it. Diesel doesn't vary nearly as much as gas does.

fordmantpw
Diesel here is $0.50 more per gallon than regular right now. Diesel normally goes up in the winter due to demand for heating oil and falls in the summer. Its normally 25-30 cents higher than regular in the summer and 50 in the winter. At least in my area. If you ever wonder, price diesel against off-road diesel.

Federal tax on diesel is 6 cents / gallon higher than gasoline. Wikipedia: The United States federal excise tax on gasoline is 18.4 cents per gallon and 24.4 cents per gallon for diesel fuel. The federal tax was last raised in 1993 and is not indexed to inflation, which increased by a total of 64.6 percent from 1993 until 2015. SoonerLS
Home heating oil raises winter demand in the North. Maybe I should've said that the steady demand from trucks and trains sets a floor, but it does decrease the swings in prices when compared to gasoline. SoonerLS
Federal tax on diesel is 6 cents / gallon higher than gasoline. Wikipedia: Yeah, that $0.06/gal difference explains the $0.50/gal difference...
fordmantpw
Yeah, that $0.06/gal difference explains the $0.50/gal difference... I think your math is off. :P I didn't say it made up the difference, just stating what the difference was.
Mad Hatter
Federal tax on diesel is 6 cents / gallon higher than gasoline. Wikipedia: In fairness, you qualified that by just citing Federal taxes. Oklahoma state taxes are 3 cents/gallon higher on gas than diesel. It's fair to say "about the same", in this case. http://www.oklahomagasprices.com/Tax_Info.aspx

All I was doing was pointing out the federal taxes and the difference between gas and diesel. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less. FWIW, here in MO, the state taxes are the same for gas and diesel. fordmantpw
In fairness, I did once own a '72 F-350 Crew Cab 4x4. And you think it takes 10 acres to turn MY F350 around! That '72 is almost the epitome of cool, macho-ness when it comes to trucks. Awesome! Got any pics of it?
SoonerLS
And you think it takes 10 acres to turn MY F350 around! That '72 is almost the epitome of cool, macho-ness when it comes to trucks. Awesome! Got any pics of it? I wish I did. It was a mottled purple-ish/maroon-ish sort of color that I'm pretty sure was sprayed on with rattle-cans. It was missing the front driveshaft, had no bed, and had four on the floor (complete with granny gear), and it was a very cool truck. I should've held onto it...
