Deafsoundguy
Hey I thought I'd ask the forum minds before we get a "uh I dunno" from the dealer. Its happened at least 3 times now. Intermittent. Get home or get somewhere and there's a really bad sulfur smell outside the car. Not faint, it's pretty stinky . the last time my wife just drove to the store which is pretty close. She gets back in the car and the inside reeked like it. I guess maybe the smell was in the engine compartment and the fan sucked it inside? I dunno but I've never had a car smell like that before. When we first got it on Thanksgiving eve, it had some new car burn off smells to be expected. It's mostly subsided but now there's the sulfur smell back and it's not pretty. Last week she had already taken off and I came out in the garage and that smell was still lingering as if it doesn't even need to warm up to produce the smell, it was already stinking up the garage before she could get out... and the tailpipe is obviously pointing out the garage door... So points to gas scenarios I would imagine. Is this normal? It does seem to be intermittent so that's what's weird. Anyone have any ideas? 2.7 engine. Pepe LaPew would be proud. akirby
Usually points to bad gas. Try a different station.

CoolScoop
https://parksidemotors.ca/why-does-my-car-smell-like-rotten-eggs/ Could also just be how it was driven. A problem would most likely trigger the check engine light and register a trouble code.

Hey buddy, that's a great article, thanks for posting the link!!! yesterday it happened again, my wife went to the store (5 miles away). She was only in the store about 20 minutes. Said she didn't smell the smell until she got in the car and started it up. Then she smelled it and had to open the window. Here's the funny thing - she was really attached to her FPace for the power. And I keep telling her to switch the Nautilus to Sport mode so she can get her groove back and appreciate the power and handling of the Nautilus (and more torque) but she just won't for some reason. I'd like to get her to use "option 1" of the stated article and "drive like a teenager" to see if that helps. I honestly think she likes the D mode (I have set to Normal mode) and likes the smoother ride but then just hits the pedal harder to get her stoplight Gran Prix thing going again. All over short distances everyday... So maybe that CC isn't getting up to normal operating temp and giving off the smell... Since the car is brand new I would think unlikely that it's already a bad sensor. But who knows. Thanks for the replies guys

J Marie
This is not your wife's driving or the gas. This is Ford Motor Company once again ignoring any issue from their terrible Quality System. My Lincoln Aviator has been doing this since I have had it (2021). Dealership (s) plays dumb and says no code, however, no real troubleshooting is done to identify this ongoing sulphur smell that is getting worse. Intermittently with another terrible exhaust smell. There is very easy basic troubleshooting they could do to identify. They do not have mechanics, they have guys that only know how to do basic oil changes and plug in an OBDII reader. (I can do that and have noticed O2bank 2 sensors drop out, funny how mechanics don't see that). I use fuel as recommended per the owners manual, drive per general recommend efficient driving suggestions, and I always get this smell every day. Now, I am hitting warranty and you can bet when I take it in at 52K they will now agree is it a Cat problem. Also just had maintenance and the car runs and sound like absolute crap at under 50K loud, ticking, vibrating. I am a woman with a technical background, I love how they talk down to me and tell me it is my driving and an make it seem like I am too dumb to understand gas. Funny, they driver who returned my car even joked you, " You know, they are just trying to get you to buy a new car right?". Well, I don't by new cars every two years and if I bought a new car I would go back Asian cars like Honda, Hyundai, etc.. My family has had a lot of cars over the years, only have issues with Ford. (All brand new cars, never used) i.e. my old Mercury mountaineer that had a crack in the tailgate they would not fix under warranty. Saying it was something I did even though every Mountaineer and Ford Explorer of that time has that same exact crack - as you would see at stop lights and parking lots. In addition, to many other repairs. My sister had a Ford Contour and Escape in her young years, always something on both cars to be fixed. No wonder why some people use to joke calling Ford, "Fix it every day Fords". Also, this crap about from dealerships to "don't do short drives everyday and try to do more long drives". Then Ford/Lincoln need to market the Car as such if that is all the car is indicated for. This appears to be false advertising then. If your car can not operate to specifications on short drives, then you need to market the car for long driving only. The indications for use seem to not create safe and effective driving as according to Ford/Lincoln claims. Myself and my kids are breathing this air. In addition, I am driving other people's kids around as well as putting this smell in the faces of wonderful teachers and people in other cars as I sit in drop off lines for school and sports for my children. It does not seem safe to keep polluting people with these smells. Needless to say, we have moved more reliable brands of Honda, Hyundai and Volkswagon. However, I had a weak moment with the release of the new Sleek Aviator- Lesson learned - never a Ford again and will warn others every day to do the same.
