How will the weight apply to EPA rating???

Current exemptions from EPA fuel economy or equivalent testing.

  • Pickup trucks and cargo vans with GVWR over 8,500 pounds
  • Passenger vehicles, such as SUVs and passenger vans with GVWR of 10,000 or more

Hummer EV Pickup Launch Edition definitely qualifies for exemption. We'll have to wait for official curb weight and GVWR specs for the other versions of Hummer EV Pickup and SUV to determine if they qualify also.

GM confirmed today that Electric Silverado will be built at Factory ZERO in Detroit, same plant that will assemble Hummer EV. They didn't mention start of production date though. First-Ever Chevrolet Silverado Electric Pickup to be Built at GM's Factory ZERO Plant

Car and Driver confirmed that GMC has a second BEV pickup truck as a follow-up to Hummer EV. It will probably be similar to Electric Silverado. GMC Confirms Second Electric Pickup to Accompany Hummer EV (caranddriver.com)

More info on the Hummer:

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a39049358/2022-gmc-hummer-ev-pickup-epa-specs/

  • The new electric truck will go 329 miles on a single charge with 212.7 kWh of usable energy and achieve 47 MPGe combined, according to GM's test data.
  • The Hummer is as heavy as 9063 pounds, and the big battery alone weighs 2923 pounds

That is just insanity weight wise. It weighs more then the Hummer H1 did. The Lighting is roughly 2500-3K pounds less.

One trip to Home Depot, and you will be over the 5 ton GVW in many municipalities. Don't leave it parked on your 4 inch asphalt driveway in the summer.

Explanation. How Is a Ford F-150 Lightning 2,500 Pounds Lighter Than a GMC Hummer EV? (thedrive.com)

  1. There's basically an extra car's worth of battery bolted up underneath the Hummer
  2. The new Hummer currently available for sale is the top-dog "First Edition." It not only features the biggest battery, but also a tri-motor drivetrain. The F-150 Lightning has a two-motor drivetrain and it doesn't have 1,000 horsepower like GMC's beast—it's got "just" 563.
  3. The Hummer has more body structure than the F-150. Keep in mind the GMC has what is essentially a T-top, which has to affect the body's rigidity. To make up for it, engineers likely had to make the lower portion of the frame seriously strong, or even reinforce the battery casing to keep the stiffness of the chassis adequate

So basically GM designed a vanity truck that is overkill for the job at hand.

The job is a vanity truck, which requires lots of power and huge size to compensate for driver's small penis. It does what it was designed to do.

Yes sir silvrsvt. "Vanity" and "Overkill for the job at hand" are recurring themes with marketing for full size pickup trucks in general. Hummer EV simply take those to a new extreme.

CNBC announced today that demand for Hummer EV far exceeds GM's initial expectations. Also, the percentage of Hummer EV reservations being converted into actual orders is 95%, also higher than expectations. GM looks to increase Hummer EV production as reservations top 65,000 (cnbc.com)

  • GM has received more than 65,000 reservations for its electric GMC Hummer pickups and SUVs, as the automaker attempts to expedite production of the vehicles to meet demand.
  • The reservations number is higher than the automaker’s initial expectations, according to Duncan Aldred, global vice president of GMC.
  • The Hummer EV pickup is currently on sale, but new orders would not likely be fulfilled until 2024 due to the number of reservations.
