If you do the research, there were many very good people at GM and Ford that did not want to take the front wheel drive trip.
I think Roger Smith at GM thought everything should be front wheel drive even luxury cars and full size sedans. This is how we got the front wheel drive Buick Electra and the corresponding Cadillacs like the Deville and Sevilles.
Ford had to follow but wisely stopped at the Taurus size on front wheel drive and derived the Lincoln FWD from the Taurus.
To be competitive with Cadillac, ford had to do a front wheel drive Continental V8, Intec 4.6 liter which did not sell very well and never got even close to the anticipated volume.
Again, hind sight is 20/20 and that why the replacement of the 302 and 351W V8 engines was done with 100mm bore centers with the 4.6 and 5.4 V 8’s.
The group that redesigned the 4.6 into the current 5.0, that replaced both the 4.6. & 5.4,
were able to use the 4.6 block transfer lines with no change to bore center or deck height, a major accomplishment!
Expect a refined 5.0 V8 to be in F150 for a long time probably with a more efficient hybrid drivetrain than the current Powerboost as an option.

Transit van will not be discontinued - however, it is getting updated and/or a replacement model. Transit will continue in North America, but like a lot of other products, will be revamped. Hope that some of the revamping will align it mechanically with the rest of the Ford truck lineup. More parts commonality equals lower costs overall.
Replacement in 2029:
The company no longer intends to produce a previously planned new electric commercial van for Europe but will continue to maintain its full lineup of electrified vans for that market. Ford also plans to replace a planned electric commercial van for North America with a new, affordable commercial van — with gas and hybrid models — to meet the needs of commercial customers. This new van will be manufactured at Ford’s Ohio Assembly Plant.
--------
Ohio Assembly Plant: The plant will become a central hub for Ford Pro, assembling the new gas- and hybrid-powered commercial van starting in 2029, alongside Super Duty chassis cabs, strengthening Ford’s commercial vehicle dominance.

Kind of shocked. I thought it was selling well enough that they wouldn't need to do this.
Also interesting that they're separating the North American and European van lines again.
Was the cost savings just not there?
Here's my usual rant (I'm just copying and texting it) that I use at a leadership seminar I facilitate, where we usually have a participant from Simon Malls, or commercial property management companies...
The question to me usually is "Where do you Brick and Mortar shopping heading"...
I ask you, why have you made it such a horrible experience?
SO I have a black car, I would like to park under a tree, OH but wait, your company removed ALL the oak trees so your merchant signs can be seen because you think that the traffic rushing next to the mall at 55MPH is going to be focused on a sign...
After finding a suitable spot. I walk in... I'm being harassed by 2-4 kiosk attendants, "How would you like to hear about our new cell phone plan?"..."Hi would you like a free chiropractic evaluation?".."How would you like to sample a new cologne?" where I politely say "No thank you...3-4 times"...
I then find the store, example "Bath and Body Works"... I walk in, "Hi, welcome would you like to hear about our sales?" - No Thank you, I'm just purchasing a gift card thanks"...After making it half way into the store, "Hi let hand you a basket for your goods"...I repeat, "No thank you, I'm just grabbing something at the register quick"... Well I made it to the register, "Hi I would like to purchase a $100 gift card"... The attendant then starts "Can I have your zip code?"... I'm like "No I do not share that"...Then they ask, "Can I please have your email?" I say "NO I do not share that either"...they reply with "We send you coupons if you sign up"... I reply "Yes and they expire on Friday, and I do not come into this store for maybe 2-3 times a year for a gift card, now do me a favor, HIT that little key so we can continue, here's my DAMN credit card, can we PLEASE skip this step"?---And finally purchase the damn gift card...
I then finally start walking to leave the store, but once again "Oh Hi would you like to hear about our sales"... Then make a mad-dash, around the people that feel they need to walk 4-5 across holding hands, the twin baby strollers and grandma walking like a penguin"... rush past the 3-4 Kiosk attendants, to just get to my car so I can just road rage out of there....
Hey class members, I will tell you, in Miami the attitude and the curse words were very common and shoving people out of my way, but I'm here in front of you with class and eloquence instead, see how a city can change someone...
SO I get to the light, flip to the Amazon app, and guess what, it shows up at my door in a day or 2 without all this drama, and no one gets hurt, insulted, or permanently injured And If I have a drink or 2, I'll likely forget, and I feels like Xmas when Amazon shows up
(At that point I try to make it funny for the class)...And guess what, everyone's head is nodding, and yet, they never answer my question "What have you mall owners done to make it an enjoyable experience"...
well, I think Fields was the real champion for CD6, and IIRC, an Edge replacement (and presumably Nautilus), as well as a Ford/Lincoln sedan, and once he went, there went those plans.
And I regret that the post did indeed look like EB had fallen to online competition instead of continuing online.
Online shopping has a lot of advantages and at least EB still has customers supporting them.
Not to beat the prop rod thing to death, but I think it depends on the car and the intended market. My wife's Escape has a prop rod and I do not give a rat's buttocks because it is just another transportation module. However, the Mustang is more of an icon and many Mustang GT customers do mods, show off their cars to friends, or at meets, clubs, drag strips, etc. Many of us open the hood more than the trunk. The first thing I did with my Mustang was add hood struts. I bought aftermarket non-Ford ones, though.
