  1. this has been brewing for years. I work for an automotive supplier and we have been having issues getting chips for years now. Everything needs them. I make power window switches and they have chips with software. Just about anything in the car needs a chip.
  2. wow all these percentage predictions are very optimistic. I live in a rural area and don't see sales of BEV going up much. the ICE will be around a long time, I don't see combines and harvesters being battery powered because you can't be down for hours waiting for it to charge. I see a lot of cars and equipment getting rebuilt over and over if they actually stop building usable vehicles.
  3. They left out the Mustang II... great inspiration there
  4. Detroit area is a hotspot. our dealers are open service only so no sales going on around here.
  5. I ordered one part from Tasca and it was a nightmare. After return shipping it cost me $12 to not get my part. I have given up on fordparts.com or any of their affiliates and just go to rock or Amazon.
  6. Seen one on the road the other morning. it was next to the current model and it looked strangely tall and boxy. You could see a lot of the IRS underneath. proportions looked off and unfinished.
  7. Subaru Forester Ultimate Customised Kit Special Not directly from Subaru. I guess they will get some press out of it.
  8. Yeah I have a friend that has his own business and his wife drove an Escalade for business. Wonder if she felt out of place driving to the free clinic to get the kids their shots since they had minimum health care.
  9. I don't have to pull the wheel off but on my RAM 3500 (cummins) I have to change the oil filter through the wheel well. no way to access it from the top or the bottom. it is a bit of a pain in the ass.
  10. I have family on both sides of the fence so its bad either way.
  11. http://fortune.com/2018/10/09/ford-stock-today-layoffs-trump-trade-tariffs/ Didn't see this posted yet
  12. I am not in love with the new RAM but it is much better looking than the GM twins. The interior of the ram looks much better than the twins also. I think GM might struggle against the new RAM. I try to hold off judgement until i see a vehicle in the real world... just saw an M plate chevy on the way to work yesterday and it didn't help... the front and rear are just horrible.
  13. I have a '15 RAM 3500... i will add this to the list... i think there are about 6 recalls on the truck now.
  14. I am a mechanical engineer and have worked for a supplier that is developing their own autonomous program. I don't see any point with current technology that true self driving cars will work... there will need to be major infrastructure put in place to guide the cars and let them know where they are and where they should be. there are too many variables and computers aren't smart enough yet. It will come someday but there needs to be set rules on how it will work and how the system be built.
  15. looks like the Hyundai version of the Cadillac Escala... with a 1960 Chrysler imperial steering wheel
  16. Will be interesting to see how well the sensors work in the bumper. the sensors are easily fooled by water. if wet mud or snow pile up in those pockets is could cause a constant false activation.
  17. there was also the explorer package on trucks https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwiGtsPNquTYAhUCXKwKHQwJAWIQjRwIBw&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ford-trucks.com%2Fforums%2F866039-1978-f-150-explorer-info-wanted-4.html&psig=AOvVaw09dpAvaeGRDqBl-UQWvz1A&ust=1516461633434831
  18. My wife was just complaining that height wise she can reach stuff in the bed of the truck but once you put the tailgate down she is to short to reach stuff. if it swung to the side it would help that. they are scraping the bottom of the barrel for "new creative features".
  19. I agree.. it would be nice if they put a little stock back into the cars... it would be interesting to see if a tuned up 3.5 ecoboost could outlast an LS chevy or have the option to run the coyote. It would be interesting agian. adding road courses and dirt tracks would be cool to.
  20. The OEM's create the test spec's but it is up to the supplier to do the component level testing and report the results. Then the OEM's do vehicle level testing. I have worked for a few suppliers and it is all the same, the spec's tend to be vague and a lot of the testing and results is left up to interpretation. With the help of computer analysis and simulations parts are built on the edge of being good without any extra room for variation. For non compliance the cost of the recall is pushed back onto the supplier. They have to replace all bad parts for free and pay for service costs to perform the recalls. It is in the best interest of the supplier to be honest with the testing but costs drive a lot of decisions.
  21. In my experience Ford is tough but fair to work with. GM has been up and down depending on if your are dealing with New GM or old GM. Nissan and FCA are about the same, as organized as a twister in a trailer park....
  22. 80-82 had the holy frame so that would be an area to be cautious of if rust is an issue.
  23. where I live it is a 60c/gal difference.... that can add up quick.
