tommy8768
I see its OK to slam Toyota but when its Fords fault you guys dont like it do you? I know Ford can do no wrong in your opinions. Im just telling you what I have seen. From my perspective Toyota is better than Ford. If you dont like it tough. And Nick, car salesman I can see you as. And Nick, car salesman I can see you as. well....perhaps thats because this is a FORD forum....yeah...that took a lot of thought effort....but really...you think all the people on here think as highly of ford as the few of us that your referring to...just read a few posts and a few threads and you'll change your mind...by the way...it seems you wrongly think that Toyota can do no wrong....so how is that any different than us...think about your own words before criticizing others. tommy8768
Well they can do wrong I see it all the time...so can Ford. Unfortunately you guys always have a fuckin excuse why. Excuse time is over-either Ford changes or dies Thats it.
ford-boy
I have been looking on the NHTSA site for complaints about the 2007 Tundra and have been surprised to find none..... today was the first complaint. The complaint is about brakes. http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems...ain/results.cfm http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems...ain/results.cfm I'm surprised that with 20 cam failures in the field not ONE person has complained about it. F250
At least nobodys house burned down to the ground from faulty cruise control switches that Ford used for about 15 years. It took years before those little cruise switches began to fail and the fix was easy. It has taken only days for Tundra engines to do their hand grenade impersonation. Back to the point. Toyota has been caught selling trucks they knew had defective engines before they left the plant! It's one thing when a defect is discovered after months or years of service it's entirely different to know about a serious defect before the truck is shipped and still sell that product to your customers. For example, at that job of yours, if you cross thread the drain plug on your next oil change would you tell your boss and the customer? Or would you just let it roll and hope you don't get caught. Twincam Harley
There certainly will be more failures. I heard that the Tundras were also tearing out the rear axle or something to that effect. Any truth to that? The Tundra is not living up to it's expectations and I'll bet it's becoming an embarassment within the leadership of the company. You'll see people starting to get fired soon. The plant manager at the Texas plant was replaced recently. I'd like to know who the camshaft supplier is. I'll bet it's at least a Toyota owned entity. I bet a little digging would provide the answer.
NickF1011
And Nick, car salesman I can see you as. Nah...I actually hated doing sales. It wasn't so much the sales process itself that bothered me. It was having to spend 9-10 hours a day with the other salesmen, the majority of whom were your typical backstabbing, cheating, deceptive asshats. That's why I only did it for about 6 months. I much preferred being "in the trenches" in the back of the dealer actually getting my hands dirty.
tommy8768
So how come you quit being a tech? was it flat rate or hourly?
NickF1011
So how come you quit being a tech? was it flat rate or hourly? It was about to switch over to flat rate when I left. I had decided to go back to college at that point so I just moved on. Wasn't anything particular that I didn't like...except trying to move those 80-gallon trash drums filled with a few hundred pounds of stay-dry and broken parts!! At least I wasn't the poor shmoe who had to load them into the truck to take them to the dumpster!! Just for a frame of reference...this was back in 1998-2000. tommy8768
You're lucky you got out right when Ford was implementing their famous SLTS labor time slashing. Good for you I hope you're doing something you enjoy. I dont mind fixing cars and Im pretty good at it...its just all the other bullshit that goes on at a dealer that I dont like. Im sure you know what Im talking about.

Im sure you know what Im talking about. Yeah, my brother is a BMW technician. I hear plenty of stories from him. Sounds like it's a lot better there though than it probably is at most of the non-european shops though. I moved into the world of computers these days and thoroughly happy that I switched. My mechanical abilities now are pretty much limited to tinkering with my Cobra on weekends in the garage.
Mark8LSC CE0464
Ford having 5 of the top ten vehicles in intial quality should shake up our buddies over at toyoda! Here goes those crazy American's again, showing the ricers how to do it!
tommy8768
initial quality is not what interests most people, they're concerned with 5 or 10 years down the road. Unless youre a person who leases or buys a car every two years

I just looked up the 2006 Vehicle Dependability survey (measuring 2003 models after 3 years). Mercury was #2 behind Lexus. Ford was above average. White99GT
Thats what happens when you hand them an envelope full of cash Just because Ford did well in a quality survey doesn't mean you'll be out of a job tomorrow, tommy. 351cid
I have a question. If Honda and Toyota are such great, long lasting cars, then why aren't the highways just loaded up with them? I see more mid to late 90's Escorts than late 90's Toyotas...and I run all 48 states, so it isn't just one area in the country.

It's funny you say the prevailing wisdom is that Ford is innocent, but when I read the papers and watch the news on T.V. the only companies to be chastised are American based. The imports are the darling of the media, It's all a hoax! In time as we focus on quality we will win the customers back because, contrary to popular perception we are beating the imports in styling handling and performance! We racked up 15 accolades, more than any other automaker. We care about our product, jobs, and customers and will be relentless!

It's also amazing that I see so many 1970's and 1980's domestics on the road too... Maybe because the parts are affordable compared to some foreign P.O.S. and the insurance is cheaper?
