Edstock
Me too! I hope it's at the show, so Ford can see the reaction. Even with the US$ making it more expensive, it's a new vehicle for a new segment in the market, the "commercial" minivan.

FordBuyer
this "could" be a cah cow...there is ZERO competition....... Unless it steals market share from the E-Vans which are more profitable.
Deanh
Unless it steals market share from the E-Vans which are more profitable. I don't see it that way, small caterers, flower shops, gas conscious companies like DHL, California overnight, parts trucks....Econolines are big and a lot of the time underutilized and thus their size is un-necessary...... theoldwizard
Unless it steals market share from the E-Vans which are more profitable. The Transit Connect is much smaller than the Transit so it is totally out of the E-Series market. From Wikipedia The Ford Transit Connect is a panel van developed by Ford Europe an introduced in 2002. It replaced the older Escort van range, which had ceased production two years earlier. Despite the name, it shares very little components with the Transit; in fact its closes architecture is the C170 platform of the original Ford Focus. The Connect is built by Otosan in an all new production plant near Kocaeli, Turkey. The NA version will also come from Turkey. igor
The Transit Connect is much smaller than the Transit and share nothing with the Transit except the name. It is not much bigger than a Focus wagon. heck the FRONT of the car IS from the Focus - the C170 MkI Focus - the rear is unique with solid axle and leaf springs. Blueblood
This would be awesome, I just read this over on Autoblog, I thought it was reported recently that they canned the idea of bring the TC here? I agree that this thing should do really well with gas prices, it would have the market to itself, the Sprinters are HUGE, this would be perfect for people wanting a sprinter type vehicle without the size.. richardmayo
Any chance there would be a trim level offered to compete against the Mazda5 or the Kia Rondo, or would this be more of a delivery / fleet vehicle exclusively? I can see Ford's reasoning for putting it on hold with the awful exchange rates. It may be shown as a hint at what's to come though. No reason not to sell it here once the Focuses merge platforms again and assembly could be done in NA.

grbeck
exactly what i heard the holdup is...damn US dollar has become a penny stock...go Hilary insert evil laugh............ The cheaper dollar does help U.S-based companies that export goods...it would also seem to strengthen the case for making products here. So whether Senator Clinton will change this (assuming she even wins) remains to be seen.

rmc523
Unless it steals market share from the E-Vans which are more profitable. Unless they sell enough of them to equal profits of the Econoline. Besides, even if it does steal sales from the Econoline, the buyer will be staying in the Ford realm of things. Also, lower Econoline sales may cause Ford to redesign the thing. (Just thinking out loud) Edited January 25, 2008 by rmc523

Furious1Auto
http://www.autospies.com/news/Rumor-Ford-b...uto-Show-25666/ The article refers to the Transit Connect, I hope Chicago does get it because until they do something with the Taurus sales that plant is in jepordy! Chicago's line cannot accomidate the Transit because of it's size. The Transit will be built at OHAP so we can build another Full size utility van that lasts to 1,000,000 miles! 1,000,000 mile E-series thread LINK! soupy
Saw one drive through parking lot at Liv. Trans. yesterday. It was black with side windows. So at least one is here. That 4cylinder, is that diesel? Those Dodge sprinters are just everywhere. Are they diesel?

mustang_sallad
The TC i was driving for work today was a 4cyl petrol engine, I think its a zetec, and it can run on LPG. We've got another one with a turbo diesel 4. speaking of which i gotta move it, though parking's pretty easy for a work van. Still got the massive blind spot, but the TC is nice and short. ps i've got keys to a TC right here, so if anyone wants to know anything, let me know. You know like... i could... put it on a dyno or something, or go weigh it somewhere. Edited January 29, 2008 by mustang_sallad
