Thanksgiving Thanks to Ford

Recommended Posts

The problem is my dealer has 14 on the lot. And with only 1500 a month sold between 3000 dealers...that aint good.

Maybe the TC is selling in other areas, but not in Metro Detroit. I rarely see one on the street in Ford country months after debut and dealers around here have lots of them on dealer lots just sitting. Long term the TC will sell, but right now they are sitting.

Thanks Ford for not going the government bankruptcy route and thanks for giving us something very upbeat in a downbeat economy. Hopefully 2010 will be even better.

Here's a pic of the old '70s "Sin Bin" Pinto "Cruisin' Wagon" mentioned above:

That is cool. I remember those when they were brand new. Not so bad if you dropped the porthole and stripes. The Pinto wagon was available with the 2.8L V6 and 4-speed manual. The same porthole, stripes and black trim was available on the Econoline back then.

Here's the van you speak of..... GrOOvY!

( BTW... This is back when vans, ESP. the Econoline, still had some style. Imagine how much better looking the Econoline would look today with some form of modernized version of the grill below, compared to the abomination that the E-series is currently saddled with.)

From the first time I saw one on the road recently, the following is what popped into my head almost immediately:

http://www.popularmechanics.com/blogs/auto...ws/4319682.html

Driving the van both empty and with a 1600-pound payload aboard, acceleration at urban speeds is adequate, though with the aero drag of the tall roof, the hefty curb weight, and only four gears in the slushbox, the Transit doesn't look like an ideal candidate for high-speed, cross-country touring, [/i]though Ford did mention it is in discussions with RV makers about possible camper versions.

I thought I read something about Ford making a production version of the TC "Family One" concept, so perhaps something like that could be offered...

All depends where your located at...the dealership I was at last night had quite a few TC on the lot, but they also had a lot of LCF's and Econolines...other dealers only had 2-3 on the lot. I'm sure they can trade them out with other dealerships that have a demand for them if they need them.

To be honest, I've seen more TC on the road then I've seen 2010 Taurus's in my area....which is really strange.

Thanks Ford for ALL the wonderful vehicles I've owned in my life:

1988 Tempo (my first car)

1987 Crown Vic

1988 Crown Vic PI

1983 Grand Marquis

1995 Crown Vic PI

1995 Thunderbird

1996 Town Car

2001 Continental

2003 Taurus SE

2007 Five Hundred SEL (current)

I've loved every one, dearly. All except the Tempo exceeded 100K miles while I had them. Tempo was traded at 70K

Thank you for making my dad a Ford guy during my formative years (he loved the 50's and 60's T-Birds - though he never got one: "settled" for a 63-1/2 Galaxie convertible with a 390 Thunderbird motor). Thank you for my Fords:

first car: 63 Fairlane

the above-mentioned 63-1/2 that was my driver for awhile in the 70s

64 Fairlane

62 Falcon

68 Escort

02 T-Bird (though I have cursed its insatiable appetite for repair monies - it still makes me feel like a movie star)

All the great new things out, or on the horizon.

and for sticking it out - true to all the great things you've done in the past - and in the process vindicating my belief in "family" held business. I know that, with Ford, it's personal. And that means something.
