timmm55
as much as i enjoyed the 5.0 with an Auto, I found it extremely annoying punching the throttle for a kickdown and the seemingly endless wait for it to happen, the downshift on the stick even when doubling the clutch was markedly quicker...then again, i'm a die hard stick shift boy, throttle off after a downshift, the popping and overrun are music to my ears, and being able to keep the engine "on song" by being in the right gear at the right time is invaluable...that and due to using engine braking my brakes last a LONG time....I'm a Manual man... What "seemingly endless wait?" Come on, I had a 05 Mustang GT (auto) with only 300 HP. I have a Miata (5 speed manual) now. It's not that the throttle response of the auto is slow vs the manual, it's more that the driver has control over input (ie how much RPM when engaging the clutch). Some of that response is built in......a safety factor......a chip can reprogram that. You can make any car with a clutch burn rubber easier than the same car with an automatic. It just Feels faster and more powerful. Don't get me wrong, I love driving a stick shift........for all the reasons you mentioned. But to go fast and effortless and consistently.....you can't beat a Mustang GT automatic. It can be shifted manually too. Not as much fun tho! Either tranny is fine in a Mustang (esp the GT). I can't say the same thing for Miatas! They absolutely SUCK with automatics.
silvrsvt
I test drove an automatic 06 GT when I ordered mine and I was impressed by how well it did...it lacked some of the control you have with the stick, but it was a very pleasant car to drive...and this is coming from someone who has driven nothing but sticks my whole driving life. Now, I have no issues with an auto in a cruiser or CUV/ Suv....however, how bout manuals in the SHO, Eco Flex and Raptor....I know I'm in a define minority, but I learnt in a manual, have had Autos just prefer the invilvement and in my mind benefits and overall driver experience....love the fact the GT500 has NO auto option, car is for DRIVERS..... Slushie Mafia eh? LOL Well, I'll expand your list, my preference extends to Muscle Cars. Even though I've had a manual 1995 SHO, (old) 5.0 Mustang and Capri (the old Ford slush boxes were POS!) they were great fun to drive. But if it (a new car) were for 1/4 mile racing I'd pick an automatic. I seldom power shift a stick....it just doesn't seem right! So for me an auto is easier to abuse! LOL

LOL in a 1/4 mile perhaps, torque braking gives the Auto an advantage...but its the ONLY scenario i can think of where i might feel the need for an auto......the control is just superior....then again I did find the stick annoying whilst topping out at 15 mph in stop and go traffic....50 minutes for a 12 mile jaunt...ARRRRRG! White99GT
I agree. Getting a Mustang with an automatic is like drinking water with a fine dining French meal. Somehow Steven McQueen in his Bullit Mustang with an automatic would be very lame. What do these Mustangs have in common? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wdr4pN1J4dA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-zpDjYlgAA&feature=related Massive horsepower, quick ETs, and autos. Steve McQueen would have been banging gears in vain had that Charger been 700+ rwhp auto Mustang. :D
White99GT
in a 1/4 mile perhaps You'd change your tune if you drove an auto with a full manual VB and a converter capable of lockup at WOT.
danglin
Wow this thread has been JACKED!!! She is home. :happy feet: :hyper: :happy feet: :hyper: Check out the Photos. I am very pleased with the result. They did an excellent job! It actually turned out better that I thought it would. I know that several at the dealership were not to sure of my color choice, but I think it is Perfect! This textured Paint also "sparkles" , for lack of a better word, when the sun hits it. More mods soon... :stats: Edited June 18, 2010 by danglin
danglin
Danglin, do you have any mods planned? Racing stripes next. In the Future: SHR Flush Mount Lovers painted the same as by Black Plastic, Rear Window Louvre Body Color and Striped. Also Considering Aftermarket Sunroof. (Would have been all over it if Ford Offered it. Hint!!! Hint!!!) That is all I have in mind at this moment. I am sure more will hit me. It is a disease :shades: Edited June 18, 2010 by danglin

Only tweak to your list I would make is that I'd like to see manuals return to the entire F-series line, not just the Raptor. White99GT
nope..its all about involvement for me..I ENJOY driving.... I promise you would. With a full manual VB the only thing taken out of the equation is the clutch. The auto requires input for everything, shifts as fast or faster than the best power-shifter, and with lockup gives you the 100% engagement like a manual. The auto requires input for everything, shifts as fast or faster than the best power-shifter, and with lockup gives you the 100% engagement like a manual. Thats the point the clutch is 50% of the manual driving experience, the sweetness of the take up and control of applying the torq. It is the only way to go if you really want to be involved in te whole mechanical operation of the car. Never mind the actual feel of the engagement of the selected gear and even the possibility of a missed shift, these things can never be replaced. All you auto guys seem unwilling to understand this. For us manual guys no auto will ever replace a maual no matter how quick or efficient they get.

Sixt9coug
I admit, I cringed a little when you said you were gonna do the two tone with silver. However, after looking at the pictures, it came out great! Beautiful car, and have fun with it. Manual trans rules btw
danglin
Thanks for the replies everyone. I did not know I was going to start the Auto or Manual debate!!! :blah: I did give very short consideration to getting a manual. I must say though, that this machine is a blast to drive and I am very content with the decision to get the auto. :shades:
