2023 Super Duty Orders & Discussion

What I found interesting at my dealership is that there were 16 F450 KR on order and none of them got scheduled, however a number of Platinum and Lariats got built and all were the same priority as mine (that's another topic).

It's funny but between the KR and Platinum, there is very little difference. It's mostly down to interior style options. Both are outfitted with the exact same equipment. So, I wonder what part/parts of the KR trim are so constrained.

For my new order I'm deciding between bumping to the Platinum or Lariat Ultimate. With the exception of the MC seats, I'd be optioning it with the same equipment as the KR or platinum, which makes me wonder if that wouldn't really be avoiding the problem.

I’ve had a Platinum on order since 11/1. It is “supposed” to be “picked up” for build in August.  We shall see.  If it doesn’t get built as a ‘23 model and I have to order a ‘24, I’ll be switching to a Lariat Ultimate.  There’s very little difference and it seems like a good number of Lariat Ultimates have been built in ‘23 and are still being built.  I’ve gotta believe it gives me a better chance of having my vehicle built.

I am with you, what I not sure about is KR and above should be all top of the line and if I do not want blue seats I should not be in the position to not get all I would like. I loved my old KR. Would like to replace with all opt . I under stand Fords issue. Sort of. If you can not build my TRUCK in 21 months then top ter may need to be checked and say WtF. Its not all about  parts and production, its Loyatly. Dudes. Step up to the plate guys. Management you need to get it right. Your floor people are on it and a say of thanks to them.

My Platinum hasn’t been picked up for build. I’ve since placed a 24 Platinum order as well as a 24 Lariat Ultimate Tremor. Hopefully one of those will get built. It’s frustrating as heck but unfortunately we have zero input and zero choice in the matter. Also feels like the dealers are stuck in the dark as well.

Did you do two different dealers?

So far I've kept it a KR. But my dealer seems to think a Lariat will have a better chance but I haven't asked if the ones he said got built were the Ultimate package.

I went to two different dealers because the dealer I ordered my platinums through hasn’t been great at communicating and when I asked about changing to a lariat they told me that I couldn’t do that and I’d have to stick with the platinum if I wanted a good priority code for 24….. pretty sure it was just laziness on their part. The other dealer was more than happy to place the lariat order and told me they’d do everything the could to get it here before the platinum so I buy from them and not their competitor. We shall see

For what it's worth, my Lariat Ultimate got built and is currently in the shipping process.

Orders for a ‘24 can be made?  I didn’t realize they were open yet….

Yes, I ordered a 24 KR 450 last week since my 2023 order never scheduled.

I’m not expecting Ford to deliver though.

My dealer hasn't even contacted me about the 2023 platinum 450 i ordered last October. The only time I get any info is when I contact them. I'm still waiting but in the meantime, I have a Chevy and GMC ordered. Not trusting Ford one bit - and why should I?

I’m with you. I have an AT4x and ZR2 ordered as well. Was honest with both dealers that I have fords ordered but am not confident they will be built. They were more then ok with it because they want high trim trucks they can sell if I back out.

I’m going to go ahead and put in a 450 Platinum order for ‘24.  I don’t expect it will get built, but I’ll be ready to trade the Chevy dually High Country by then.  If it shows up, great.  If it doesn’t, I’ll be back in a GM again I guess.

Just for kicks, I checked to see if there are any F150 Platinums within a 100 mile radius of home.  There are 84 (albeit missing options).  I thought it was odd to find that many F150 Platinums available, with them building so few ‘23 Superduty Platinums.

For one of the knowledgeable moderators:

The Ford order tracker shows my 2023 KR scheduled for the week of 8/4/2023.  I thought build schedules typically have a Monday start date.

1/4/2022 - order placed for a 2022 KR

1/5/2023 - order confirmed.

11/14/2022 - received notification the order was bumped to the 2023 model year.

11/14/2022 - ordered a 2023 KR.

5/11/2023 - received notice of week of 29 May build schedule.

5/16/2023 - received notice of week of 24 July build schedule.

6/6/2023 - received notice of week of 28 Aug build schedule.

6/20/2023 - received notice of week of 31 July build schedule.

7/25/2023 - Ford order tracker shows a 4 August build schedule.

Agreed, I have noticed the same thing around here to include Limiteds as well. I understand it’s a totally different frame and chassis etc, but the options are mostly the same and they produce a lot more halftone than 3/4 and 1 tons. But all the other manufacturers are the same they have a lot of high trims sitting all over the place on lots. Just an observation. Wish they could take some of the components and throw them over to the superduty build lines and produce a few more but I’m sure it’s way more complicated than that.

The initial scheduling notice would show the Scheduled Production Week and display the date for the week starting on a Monday. Once the actual build date is assigned, the actual scheduled production date would display.

Forget the trackers. Your Dealer has 24/7 access to the most recent and accurate status information.

I just said to heck with it and bought a solid white 2023 F450 XLT today.  I got it 1% under invoice so I’ll make out fine on trade when (IF ??) my 2024 KR is built.

‘This truck is way more truck than my 2011 450.  It’s a nice ride even in the XLT lol.  I just couldn’t wait another year for Ford to Jack around and show their incompetence once again.

My dealer told me I could. But probably easier decision for them since my Platinum still isn’t scheduled. However your not obligated to take the 23 by any means

With the delays for over two years now and no more certainty looking ahead, I can't imagine not taking a truck you ordered if it has the options you want and it's on the lot ready to go...even on the last day of the year.  You might pass up a late 23 and end up never getting your 24 scheduled.  I've been waiting for 600-plus days and will likely get my platinum (finally scheduled for later this month) towards the end of the model year and you will have to fight me to not take it.

Ford has to figure out a way to stop this stuff from happening. I have friends that have 3 different trucks ordered at different dealerships. All this chunks up supply chain, scheduling... This isn't exactly what you have done because of two model years but they should require massive down payments when they see the same name/address twice in the order system. You do have a choice though, and that's make sure your dealer has all the order data correct, allocations available and proper priority code on your original order. .
I have now sold my 2022 F450 Lariat and have ordered a 2024. So now I'm sitting in some queue battling for parts with your truck LOL, that really you may not even want if your 2023 showed up in a month. Assuming your first one is a 2023. If your 2023 isn't built, and converted to 2024 it will get the highest priority at that time. Not exactly sure if that's the case if yo willy nilly generate a new order. So what may then happen is you'll simply have the same wait with the 2024.

Are you getting any emails from Ford? I'd go make sure that they have everything in the system correctly, signed DORA? Priority code? I feel many times these orders aren't getting completed because of the dealer not knowing what the hell they are doing and two, customers not understanding every detail of the order.

I'll give you a quick example. Last Saturday I went to my LOCAL ford dealer to order a 2024 F450 Lariat Ult. From their lips to my ears, the super duty ordering specialist and the GM said we can't giver you the price of the truck until it comes in. I sad huh? It will have my X-Plan listed on the DORA. Sir, just MSRP shows up on the DORA, Ford prices these when they come in. At this point, I realize I'm dealing with a shister and pull up my last DORA on the 2022. This is what I want to see. Never seen that before. Good god, smell you later. Incompetence from my local Ford dealer, Bill Pierre Ford. Texted my Salesman from the AZ dealer "San Tan Ford" (1800 miles away) that I ordered my 2022 from and he had things to me in less than 5 minutes, signed sealed and done. Massive dealer with lots of allocation space. So don't put up with bullshit from crappy dealers and also follow this YouTube channel religiously (https://www.youtube.com/@longmcarthur). You will be able to educate your local dealer quickly. You're making a massive financial decision so take ownership of the process 100%. If the dealer won't let you or gives resistance, MOVE ON. I know someone else a few years ago that ordered a truck and it was never getting any build dates, turn out I think he said the priority code was 99. That truck was NEVER going to be built. Tim from Long Mcarthur said last night there are currently 1700 SuperDuty's with a 99 priority code. So there are 1700 people around the country right now that will NEVER get their truck. GREAT JOB DEALERS... LOLOL Don't be one of them.

Yeah I know I don't have to take the '23 and not will I. I'm not that concerned, I feel pretty comfortable saying that it's not going to be built. I'm still considering changing to a Platinum though. That 1% difference in expected capacity makes a big difference at scale.
