So only 2.5% of reservations were actually purchased.

https://www.torquenews.com/11826/end-only-25-cybertruck-reservation-holders-decided-buy-truck-tesla-officially-finishes/amp

"Tesla has officially ended the Cybertruck reservation program in the US, as the EV maker exhausted the entire reservation list. Ultimately, only 2.5% of Cybertruck reservation holders went ahead and bought the truck.

Last week, based on multiple posts on various online forums, we reported that, in just nine days, Tesla was close to exhausting the entire 1 million Cybertruck reservation list."

Man I wish that certain someone was still here to read his spin on this.

Not going 100% EV is going to put Ford out of business in 5 years!

Ford's fate has already been sealed. Any brand that isn't fully electric right now will be out of business within the year! The cybertruck is love, the cybertruck is life.

MotorWeek recently tested a Cybertruck Beast and seemed to like it for the most part, except for its limited visibility.  I personally think it’s too polarizing in appearance, too expensive, range is too limited for the price, and consumes too much electricity to be truly green.  However, my views are irrelevant in that I would not consider an EV pickup, so not in Cybertruck’s target market to start with.

While it does not interest me, multiple sources report sales have climbed significantly and its EV pickup market share is pretty high now.  It has also been reported Cybertruck is now #3 electric vehicle behind Tesla Models Y and 3.  In fairness, it seems EV and particularly EV pickup sales are the bigger issue when it comes to low sales volume.

The problem is the early adopters that reserved them are done so it’s likely sales are going to drop like a rock.

Were not prices also much higher than originally projected for reservations?  I don’t recall actual original price but it went up considerably IIRC.

Sales haven’t crashed yet, with volume up in 3rd quarter.  Reports show it outsold Ford, Rivian, and GM pickups combined, so not all bad news for CT.  Article below states CT used prices crashing, but that’s from inflated used prices way above new CT MSRP.  Apparently some buyers purchased to flip and turn a quick profit, which is no longer the case to same degree.

https://insideevs.com/news/735988/ford-record-ev-sales-q3-2024/

Quote

Year-to-date, Ford sold 22,807 F-150 Lightning EVs, an increase of 86% year-over-year, 35,626 Mustang Mach-Es (up 23.4%) and 9,256 E-Transit vans (up 67.4%).

Lets see how the CT does long term-the Lightning has been out a while and is still increasing in sales numbers and isn't that far away from the CT, which is the new thing.

What do you guys think the resale value for cybertrucks will be in a few years, or a decade? Electric cars tend to depreciate quite heavily. I can either see the cybertruck depreciating more than most EVs due to how polarizing it is, or retaining it's value more because it's very unique. It'll be interesting to see what direction things go in.

That’s a great thing! This overhyped, overpriced triangle shouldn’t be selling well anyways it’s absolutely hideous!

I remember that, so funny when ICE was needed to fund everything for years…

Yeah, CT is kind of another “Tesla S” but in a truck format…the $80k price is killing most of the interest

Price and ugly ass styling are both factors. Like I said if it was made by another manufacturing I believe it totally bombs. It’s a Tesla so the fanboys will buy them.

Went to Castleton Square Mall in Indianapolis over the weekend. Local Tesla store rents out one of the parking lots there next to JCPenney and had some Cybertrucks.

CT is kinda cool but I won't be trading in my F-150 Lightning for one of those beasts anytime soon

There are consequence for hyping an electric truck with a $39,900 price and then

changing that to $50k for Lightning and $80k for Cybertruck, it’s easy to see how

quickly Ford and Tesla work through the early adopters that really want one and

then they’re stuck trying to sell high priced electric trucks to a more regular buyer.

I think Farley nailed the problem when he said that Ford ended up about $20,000

above where buyers were expecting, he can and is doing something about that

with the next few BEV due in a couple of years time. Not sure what Tesla can do,

don’t really care, they have their novelty truck and some will continue buying it.
