Maybe so, but 4,604 units through 3 quarters is pretty bad, and last quarter’s rate of 430 in Q3 was even worse with 85% decline. Ford must be losing money even if considered incremental volume, so what exactly are they gaining from continued manufacturing? I don’t see it, but Ford must have a reason. Still, it would not surprise me to see a similar announcement from Ford regarding E-Transit now that GM conceded first.
Fair comment.
Yes, back in the 1990s just in time gave good increases in efficiency but OEMs like Ford
had to keep outsourcing more and more of its parts and processes- that’s where the
vulnerability comes in, manufacturers are now prepared to risk long stoppages to get
every last possible saving.
I would welcome the Chinese Corsair, I know some here don't agree...Even a Chinese Aviator at this point.
Makes our NA version look like some poverty chariot...
Bronco Sport going global is a big no brainer decision. But moving production to Spain doesn't make any sense for North America sales. Did Ford forget it has another under utilized plant in Mexico? Cuautitlán can easily takeover production of next gen Bronco Sport.
Sounds like the Maverick CUV is the real replacement for Escape... maybe it will converge with next gen Territory/Equator Sport.
C-segment CUV is the most important segment globally... Ford can't afford to screw up. They need to have replacement/succession plans for all the products:
C-Small: Bronco Sport --> Bronco Sport
C-Large: Escape/Kuga --> Maverick based CUV
C-EV: Explorer EV --> TBD CE1
C-Coupe: Capri --> ???
C-Large emerging markets: Territory/Equator Sport --> Territory/Equator Sport
C-Large luxury: Corsair --> Corsair
It would all depend on the timeline of the Chinese model.
If the Chinese model is getting a full redesign for '27, then I'd imagine we'll get that (no sense in producing an old and new alongside each other), but if that's set to last a few more years, we'd just get the current one, and it'd be treated as another refresh for our Corsair.
GM already has the Montana in some ROW markets.....if they really wanted a "Trax pickup", they could've brought that over....I don't think they see a market for something that small.
