Yep, I am pretty Sure Korean unions are Stronger than American unions.
Hyundai Motor's Korean union warns of humanoid robot plan, sees threat to jobs | Reuters
From today's Autoline Daily. Hyundai's South Korea union says no robots, unless they agree to it.
As we reported yesterday, investors are bullish on Hyundai’s plans to sell humanoid robots and integrate them into its assembly plants. Its stock is way up since the beginning of the year and it now has a larger market cap than General Motors. But not everyone is excited about Hyundai’s plans. The automaker’s union in South Korea is warning the company about deploying the humanoids in plants without the union’s approval. Hyundai is aiming to start using the robots in 2028, first at its plant in Georgia. But its Korean union says that without an agreement “not a single robot using new technology will be allowed to enter the workplace.”
Come to think of it Hyundai has been passing along to consumers at least some of the savings it achieved with new generation manufacturing processes at the Georgia Metaplant and others. And no de-contenting of models like Ioniq 5!
Hyundai said they’re repositioning the Ioniq 5 to “better align with current market dynamics and support increased U.S. production volume.” They added the changes come as “part of a broader strategy to maintain the Ioniq brand’s leadership in the electric vehicle space while responding to shifting consumer expectations and competitive pressures.”
Despite the significant price cuts, Hyundai appears to have avoided removing equipment to lower costs. In fact, they added a dual-level charging cable.
Looks like AI enabled robotics including humanoids are going to be a game changer for sure in the automotive industry
That's what happens in a free market. Folks like Nissan and Hyundai and Mitsubishi thrive on the lower price points so if they find a big cost advantage you better believe they'll lower prices. In those markets a $2k price reduction is a guaranteed volume increase.
Of course Ford first has to reach a normal profit margin before cutting prices as opposed to just breaking even or losing money.
I thought this would be worth mentioning.
