Regarding the everyday rental CAR biz: (276) What Happens to Rental Cars After One Year - YouTube

GM is basically giving the Brightdrops away. Meanwhile I found this interesting: (259) Why Nobody’s Buying EVs Anymore (And Detroit Is Losing Too) - YouTube Regarding the 36% marketshare figure. Back in the 1960's GM had about 50%, Ford about half at 28%, Chrysler around 14% and AMC the rest. I wonder if they would be willing to give up the rest of the world if they were guaranteed those same percentages today in the US.

I usually proofread my posts but apparently I hit the 9 instead of the 6 on the numeric section of my keyboard, meaning I meant 60% but it turns out that it was about 45%.

Honestly, I think the answer could be found in the about-face many companies are taking to their former "all in for EV" stances. All anyone wants to hear from Dodge/RAM is "Hemi". GM just boiled up a new generation of V8s, plus their new diesel. The beloved Coyote has been getting decent bumps in its ongoing development cycles, but it's still fighting a LOT of battles against bigger displacements...and it appears that the locals are digging in for at least one more full round of V8 street fighting. I think the 5.4, assuming its displacement/tech improvements are in line with reasonable expectations, would be a solid 540-570 hp mill. That would be a torquier engine for a new Mach 1 that's meant to be a well-equipped GT rather than a track day monster...and/or, a strong engine for the always-imminent 4-door Mustang. Even kept around the (har!) modest 500 hp mark, which should be fairly conservative, it could be tuned for a flatter torque curve that befits a GT/Sports sedan. Oh, yeah, and gives another level of truck engine options.
