Indeed, they know what must be done, executing that with a completely new/different construction method and wiring system is another thing, there’s a lot riding on this.

johntdykstra He was my Great Grandpa, so how do you do young cuz? 😅 John Dykstra's career has always been Legendary, but I just recently learned of his role in producing most of the armaments made by Oldsmobile during WWII. This post popped up in my research. He was credited with saving the 1958 Lincoln and the 61? Falcon singlehandedly, which paved the way for the first Mustang! Proud and Humbled to be a descendant of this Gentleman. -
No, it is government direction that is the entire problem. The CCP dictates what industries will be prioritized and invested in as opposed to having a market economy. This is why they continuously have overproduction and over capacity problems. And then they make it worse by subsidizing and supporting (via cheap credit) failing and unprofitable companies. China is full of these zombie companies that would never survive in a market economy.

Automotive News explores repair costs of megacasting as Ford plans use in future EV That is where I got the info I originally posted that got it from here: Thatcham Research demonstrates mega casting technology used by Tesla can be cheaper to repair than traditional structures I'm guessing the issue is that Tesla didn't or didn't care about repairability when it was designing its cars at first, who knows maybe that has changed or will change -
Medium-severity testing? At 15.5 m.p.h.? "necessitated full mega cast replacement". Yikes! Replacing the mega cast structural component is very labor intensive, and there is still all the exterior sheetmetal (aluminum) that would have to be replaced. https://www.yahoo.com/news/why-tesla-cars-totaled-easily-145255427.html Further, that all goes for a Tesla model Y, a substantially more expensive vehicle than the Fathom will be. So it's not an apples-to-apples comparison anyway. Again, the low price of the Fathom will make 'total loss' accidents more likely. But, it's still probably a good trade-off, all things considered.

About time! GM has offered Blazer EV PPV for several years now. Sterling Heights PD in Michigan has a bunch of them in their fleet. MME SSV should provide some decent competition for the Chevy

Yea, exactly. Getting Ford Fathom out the door right on time (or earlier), in very high volume, and with excellent quality should be the top priorities for Ford big shots right now

It's not just the cost of the parts, it's the cost of labor. Labor costs are astronomical, and I would wager, a larger expense than parts. Castings should help reduced the labor costs dramatically. -
Their domestic market overheating was probably an inevitable outcome, although probably one the government anticipated/initiated by cutting subsidies and telling companies to stop the price war and behave better in foreign markets. I figure we’ll see a controlled contraction and consolidation rewarding companies that both perform and listen to the government’s direction.

might want to check your facts Medium-severity testing at 25 km/h necessitated full mega cast replacement due to cracking and structural misalignment. “However, at £716 [$978] for the replacement component, the total repair cost remained competitive with, and often below, traditional repair methods for equivalent damage,” Thatcham said. The Model Y’s mega cast construction delivered consistent cost advantages across multiple scenarios, the release adds. Partial replacements cost £2,167 (about $2,961) less than the Model 3’s traditional multi-part steel rear sub-assembly construction, while full replacements saved £519 ($709).
