  3. As for airplanes-that is long pole in the tent...the issue is batteries aren't as energy dense as aviation fuel by weight. But of course you conveniently forget that new and better batteries are being worked on where as fossil fuels have more or less met their limitations. As for your firetruck issue-read here-once again its a task that isn't quite cut out for EV yet-but you cut down on fuel costs considerably. https://www.wpr.org/madisons-fire-department-tests-out-fire-truck-runs-electricity You have to get out of the mindset that its an either/or thing. EV can work from really good to ok in a big chunk of applications. It about slowly moving to something that removes millions of little engines that pollute and necking it down to power stations that can be controlled easier or replaced by better forms of energy production to help with pollution. But no you just don't want to change because you saw some stupid misinformation shared on the internet that was designed to derail this or because you don't like the pollical dogma that it is attached to.

  4. Don’t cancel the 2022 order. You might get preferential scheduling and a personal rebate to cover the cost increase on the 23. Ford is doing that for Mavericks next month.

  7. No such thing as zero constraints, every week there are constraints. Ford only publishes the bigger/longer ones.

  8. California is NOT the auto mfrs.' friend! First they'll get all cars to be electric. Then when the power grid goes down from too much charging, people will have use mass transit! Ford better start making buses and trains...............NOW!

  12. When I traded my 2011 Lincoln MKX is, there was still some time left on the ESP I bought when I got the car...they gave me a pro-rated refund on the ESP that I put toward the down payment of my next vehicle. Ask your sales person if they are still doing that.

  13. Those 3 things are not the biggest problem when it comes to vehicle quality. The #1 issue, by far, is supplier component quality. This is partly why the supplier relations with the "Big 3" have been so controversial over the years. In a nutshell, Ford would pay 10-20% more for their components versus what the Asian brands pay, and those components were lesser quality, too. Uh-oh..... To address your concerns: 1) Bean counters NEVER push for lower cost suppliers. NEVER. That's not how it works. (Speaking as a former Ford Product Development Program Manager for the F-150.) Those bean counters simply rack-up the data on where the cost of the vehicle stands compared to the budget given by the Board of Directors/Upper Management. (Marketing management provides revenue assumptions.) At that point, if the cost/revenue balance is not where it needs to be then the Chief Engineer/Program Manager decide together where costs need to be trimmed, and the finance folks help with that given they control the cost data for every part on the vehicle. 2) There are some issues in Ford engineering. Main issue is we had a product development playbook - FOLLOW IT. Do not let half the team move on past a checkpoint if the other half hasn't finished yet. That was the biggest issue I saw in my 15 years at the company. Then you have all these different groups (chassis vs powertrain vs electrical, etc) doing different things at different times for the same truck and things get off-kilter, teams waste time working on old, or duplicate, assumptions, etc. Left foot and right foot must work together here. The other "issue" with engineering is packaging. Sometimes the way the pieces fit together just doesn't work as intended. (Maybe a harness rubs against something when we thought there was enough space there.) 3) Production issues rarely matter when it comes to long term durability. Plants are so dummy-proofed these days. Generally speaking warranty repairs under 90-days are scrutinized to see what went wrong, and some are plant-related issues and some aren't. Only about 25% of these issues is due to something done wrong during final assembly. After 90-days, a high majority of those warranty claims are due to component failure of some sort - not due to how an operator at the plant put it on.

  15. I agree j2sys. The listed "MSRP" in the Stearns Ford example is clearly false, Ford and consumer agencies can and should charge the dealership with false advertising. Attached is the window sticker for this particular F-150 Lightning, VIN 1FTVW1EL4NWG00683. 1FTVW1EL4NWG00683.pdf

  16. Insurance (of any kind) is never worth it ... until it is needed. Having said that, I have recent experience with selling two vehicles of different brands on which I had the factory sponsored extended service contract. One vehicle the standard warranty had expired, the other vehicle still had the standard warranty in effect. Both vehicles were sold to auto dealerships, one an outright sale the other a trade-in. Neither dealership cared about dealing with the service plan. This may be because each service plan appeared to only be transferable to one subsequent purchaser. For the dealership to successfully accomplish such a re-transfer to their purchaser may have been more than they wanted to deal with, if it could even be done. Neither dealership ever stated why they didn't want to take the plan. It appeared to be of no value to them. I wound up getting pro-rata refunds on both of them as they had never been used. My take ... selling to an individual and transferring a plan may yield benefits, selling/trading to a dealership will not. And read the contract for transfer terms.
