This drive officially moves the CX-9 to the head of the list to replace our SWB caravan sport when we get the corolla paid off.

Apart from making duplicate posts i can see why you probably liked it.

Have you tried the Edge yet as another possible replacement? If you dont need the 3rd row, for about $2-3k less you can get a loaded Edge. Would that also be on your list?

Yep, The Edge is slightly bigger than the CX-7 and smaller than the CX-9 plus the CX-7 needs Premium fuel :ohsnap: . The Edge was the perfect size for what we wanted. We didn't need the third row, but enough room for a stroller and goodies. The stroller filled the CX-7 and fits well in the Edge with enough room for extras. We only have one child so it's working out much better than our Mazda-6 we traded in.

Well, it's been officially six months.

April 2007 Sales: Edge: 9,134 Murano: 6,316

YTD: Edge: 33,612 Murano: 32,733

Discuss. Let's attempt to keep it civil, cite facts and sources, let's try to keep from getting anyone suspended.

It's been six months. Isn't it time to let bec off the hook? How about removing his quote from your signature

now. I or anyone else could still be bringing up the size of OAC's paint ovens.

What I put in my signature is none of your concern. You can bring up the size of whatever you want. That's your choice.

Questions about whether the Edge is a success or not are not driven by the banter about the vehicle currently being expressed. Simply put, there are two criteria to judge whether or not the vehicle has been a success. 1. Has the vehicle improved Ford's place in the market? 2. Has the program met its internal profitability targets?

The second question is the more difficult one to acertain given that the vehicle profitability targets are not public information. However, given the sales of the vehicle in conjunction with the results of the 1st Quarter (over $600M loss in North America), the Edge cannot be considered (from this perspective) entirely successful.

The first question is easier to assess given that overall people mover vehicles sold by Ford has increased with the introduction of the Edge.

In summary, the Edge can be considered a qualified success at this point in time. It is improving the sales position for a specific segment but seems not to enough to stem the dramatic financial crisis that continues to erode Ford's ability to compete.

Another way to see how a vehicle is selling is to look at vehicle production numbers. Oakville plant is working overtime building them and as of now is making more Edges/MKX's in one week than Ford is making Fusions down in Hermosillo, Mexico. Oakville has been working overtime for about a month now and is ramped up to where it's making over 4,000 Edges/week and over 1,000 MKX's/week. That would tell me Ford is getting high number of Dealer orders and that means Ford/Lincoln dealers think they can sell them and if you drive around Metro Detroit streets at all you know they at least sell a lot of them here. It's amazing how you see so many Edges on streets here after only being for sale short 6 months ago.

Generally there does seem to be a shortage of them on dealer lots. Even though they arent selling at 4-5k units per week (33k over 4 months is about 1900/week), the dealer inventory is lucky to have more than a couple available at any one time to check out for those who havent ordered through the dealer. I know we had to scramble around trying to find one two months ago, there just wasnt much available back then to choose from and even less that fit the options we wanted. However we had to replace the last car as it was literally dying on the driveway (in fact i parked it on the street in case we had to jump it again), so waiting until inventory increased was really not an option we were willing to deal with.

I've noted NO braking problems with my Edge.

You must be a really plesant person to be around. I have driven the Edge several time and drove a MKX for a day.

THEY HAVE BRAKING PROBLEMS....GET OVER IT....

And for the record, your BIG F150 has a stoping distance from 60mph about 10 feet sooner than the Edge or MKX....

That makes two of us. Sranger has got it in his head that the Edge is unsafe because of some perceived braking problem that actual owners can't seem to find so just let him be. He seems to think that driving in Atlanta traffic makes him an expert on braking. Before moving, I spent 11 years doing that, the last 3 driving 45 miles one way on Atlanta streets and freeways, and thank God every day that I have escaped that hell. If that makes one an expert on braking, then I guess I am, too. I have intentionally jumped on the brakes on our Edge and couldn't figure out for the life of me what the "problem" is. Maybe it is not the shortest braking in it's class but it certainly falls well within Federal guidelines and I wouldn't let my wife and children anywhere near it if I felt it was unsafe.

I haven't checked but I guess if my 07 SportTrac is not class leading in braking, it is unsafe, too.

I test drove the Edge at my wife's solicitation. I liked it in every way, braking included. I drive in DFW Metromess traffic and it can be more of a challenge than Atlanta, which I have the unhappy experience of living through as others here are not Lone Rangers. The Edge was fine. Accelerated with more than adequate power. Steered and manuvered with more than adequate agility. To me, it's no tank, just a nice midsize. My wife likes it. I like it. As a comparison I have used her sister's RX330 and they are quite similar in quality and design. The Ford has a little less attention to interior detail and some design features the Lexus doesn't have. It's typical Ford. More car/truck for your money than anyone else is offering. And I expect that it will outsell the Fusion and or the Taurus. Then again Toyota and Lexus sell more SUV/trucks than cars as I recall.

Now if the Escort would die, my wife will know what she wants and get it too!

I see quite a few Edges here in S. Florida, and continue to see more every day. I've also been seeing more MKXs recently as well. Good news for Ford! They need to continue this with their other products (which is beginning to happen).
