Sedan would not be useful to me. No small friends or children. My source isn't the most reliable, but he's heard that the SA-market Ka has been kicked around as an alternative to the 3-door Fiesta here, if a whole bunch of other cards fall into place. I think the MINI was done very well, but the 1-Series really gets dear. Well over $40,000. And they don't offer the 4-cylinder versions. And it weighs over 3200 lbs, which is a lot for a small car. I know the exchange rates aren't great etc etc, but I think marked a bit further down the 1 would be simply awesome. First of all, is that South Africa or South America? Ford is in both. The South American (Brazilian) Ka is a left-hand-drive 3-door, it would fill essentially the same slot as the 3-door Fiesta for our purpposes. Ford has been bringing them up to Mexico but sales there have really tanked, to the point of the Ka getting canned in Mexico, so there is production capacity they could shoot our way. The only way I really see it happening is if somehow Fiesta production supply gets tight and it becomes cheaper to send us the Ka than to increase Fiesta capacity, as I said I don't find it likely but there we are. You are right Deanh this is Alan Mulallys first global car and this is going to be a massive hit for Ford worldwide. It's much loved by the Youngsters, young Mums and Pensioners in Europe and nearly every single one sells to the private buyer that will be a big profit generator for dealers and Ford. I can see the new Fiesta hitting No 1 spot in Europe, and you might be in for a bit of a shock Stateside as to just how well it will sell, and l think it has the potential to knock the Camry off the top spot, and become the worlds best selling car. With oil at a stable $100 a barrel the Ford Fiesta looks like it going be very big sales winner, so this looks like a win win for Ford all the way. Just watch these numbers grow now Europes top 10 best sellers, Fords new Fiesta will hit the top spot Europe top 10 best selling B cars Ford's Fiesta is already a big hit in America, here is list the South American top ten best sellers cars, it already sells in a lot lot of other places around the globe, so it was nearly global already. The Escort used to be a top selling nameplate. Making the right cars people will want to buy and making them cars that will become a first choice on people's lists will give Ford the success in the US that they have worldwide. The Fiesta and the upcoming updated Focus are sure to make an impression with future buyers. The Fiesta looks like a completly well thought out design that is a knockout for the class car that it is. The warmed over NA Focus just looks like they reskinned the original Escort looking more like an Escort than the Focus it originally was. With the new Fiesta, you can have really great looks and economy at a small price. It's about time Ford is turned into something that is no longer a passover or not a first choice to start looking when consumers are interested in buying a new car. The 500 sold better than the new Taurus. 'Nuff said, and that's stronger than "Fusion". The sooner FNA adopts the nameplates of winning products, the better we'll be. Just because Fusion doesn't sell in Camry numbers doesn't mean it has a tainted name. I'm sure Fusion would sell more than it does if it were an established product. You have to remember that Fusion didn't exist just 3 years ago, and in many circles is still an unknown or little-known name. I'd say consistant year-after-year sales of 100K+ in it's first 3 years on the market is pretty good for a new-to-the-market product. As to the 3/month average.....that's a problem of over-saturation of the market. There are many dealers that overlap each other, thus causing lower average sales per dealer. Yes, but you can get BMW's 300-hp I6 in the little 1. I can tell you that motor is great in the 3, and could only be better in a smaller, lighter car. That way you don't have to feel around for counter-intuitive buttons just to accomplish a simple task. Function-following-form is lousy art.
