papilgee4evaeva
Wonder if the US-spec Fiesta will get an engine with more than 116 HP... It doesn't have to be beastly, but I bet 150 would be a lot of fun.
JW
A few observations... 1) A 116 hp engine is the hot motor?? Does the car perhaps weigh 1200 lbs? 2) Still don't like that center stack much, but I don't think that would keep me from buying it. LOVE that blue paint, too. 3) How long before a(nother) vitriolic comment from P71 about the ambient lighting? 4) [mhlm5 = ON]Diesel? DIESEL?? OH BOY!!!! (piddles down leg)

old_fairmont_wagon
4 16-valve gas engines... Kind of puts the smack down on the rumors that the ROCAM would be the standard engine.
noub
the 1.6l 116hp is the hot enginefor now. ford is working on a turbo version on it to boost the power to 170-180hp. This will come in 2009. Maybe they want to lauch this engine simultaneously for EU,ASIA and Americas late 2009
waymondospiff
Wonder if the US-spec Fiesta will get an engine with more than 116 HP... It doesn't have to be beastly, but I bet 150 would be a lot of fun. 1) A 116 hp engine is the hot motor?? Does the car perhaps weigh 1200 lbs? Yes, it would be more fun with more power. However, remember that in the UK they're paying roughly $9/gal right now. If our gasoline doubled (yet again) I bet 116hp would seem like too much! It was interesting when I was in the UK last year I had a 1.2L Corsa rental - and it was slow. But it was perfectly happy to spin it's little motor to make the most of the available power. And downshifting to climb hills is actually kinda fun - it makes you feel more involved. At the end of the day - with only 70hp - it averaged more than 40mpg. Not too shabby if you ask me. And anyway - these specs are for the European models anyway. Hasn't it been "confirmed" that "our" Fiesta is coming with the 2.0L SPI engine from the old Escort? 2.0L 4cyl 8v SOHC ~110hp? Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Scott

Hugh
Read the dateline ... LONDON I still believe my sources. At least at launch, the only available engine in the US will be the ROCAM ! Really? I thought the Zetecs were going the way of the Dodo. Either way, 118hp from a 1.6L is standard fare in this class if not better. The old Fiesta ST and the D20 is limited. We're talking about a B Platform Economy car here. I like it though and can see one of those in me driveway...like the colour.
Ford Jellymoulds
Gotta say l will be paying Dagenham Motors my local Ford dealer a visit in October to have a look at the new Fiesta and maybe take one for a test drive. I have not been near a Ford dealers for donkeys years. Ford dealers in Europe don't have Mustangs and SUV's lined up outside up because Ford have not made a sports car or SUV for years, our local dealer never has the superb Classic Ranger on display which is the only pick-up available to buy in the UK. When ever l drive past Dagenham Motor there it is one massive line of boring front end dome shaped cars that all look the same with the only dome that looks different being an Orange ST. Gotta say at long last the Feline front end of the Fiesta will bring a refreshing change to the Daganham Motors forecourt not seen since the late 1980's when you could not keep me out of our local Ford dealers when l liked everything Ford made. A lot more folk will visiting Ford dealers after October this year more will get hooked once they test drive the new Fiesta, which surely is what making selling cars should all be about. Yes come October the boring dome ora and era will be lifted as you pass your local Ford dealers for the first time in the UK in ages KOOL. Just make sure you got the steering wheel on the right side for the London Motor show. Edited July 12, 2008 by Ford Jellymoulds

joihan777
I hope that Ford is managing to develop a "world" hybrid system that can fit into the Fiesta. Honda has shown off the OSM 2-seater convertible sport car. Small, quick, fun & eco-friendly cars will be a very large part of the $5/gal+ American road. I really hope Ford will maximize the Fiesta platform. Most of the folks here seem to like performance, and rightly so. But there are soooooo many people who don't care about performance, they care about getting to work in the most economical, reliable and safest way possible. An ultra efficient Fiesta would be a worthwhile consideration for Ford.

I'm told it gives aboout US 60mpg on the Euro city cycle and IU think that's about the average between US city/Highway tests. I'm sure Ford Jellymoulds will fill you in on the details of this uber efficient Ford - and it looks good too!! kyle
Have to say I'm really digging the new HVAC controls. A very nice evolution of the three dial setup. I do to. Looks very simple but unique. I also really like the radio layout, center gauges and 2 stalk configuaration. Another nice touch is the front pillar glass-just makes the vehicle feel more spacious. RangerM
Wonder if the US-spec Fiesta will get an engine with more than 116 HP... It doesn't have to be beastly, but I bet 150 would be a lot of fun. My 1992 Miata had 116 hp. It was plenty of fun. If the Fiesta can handle like a 1992 Miata can, the car would be great fun to drive.
mlhm5
There is nothing in that European article, issued from London, that says anything about what engine or transmission choices will be available in the USA, only that the USA version will be built in Mexico and available in 2010, which means MY 2011. Maybe Ford wants to keep Toyota and Honda guessing as to the models, engine and transmission choices that will be available in the USA. After all, if you don't plan to market the car until 2011 MY, why show everything now?
igor
correct - the info is about the EU Fiesta - the one that is just about to start sales there (here - hehe) .. nothing about the US model. The Mexico assembly location does make me hopeful, however that the RoCam is NOT the engine for the US fiesta, but we will not know anytime soon (probably) Igor
theoldwizard
Forgive my ignorance, but... ... what is "ROCAM"? Kinda sounds like something you use to treat hair loss... A cheaper, less sophisticated single overhead roller finger follower cam (hence RoCAM) 2 valve/cylinder engine originally developed for Ford of Brazil but now found in several other countries. It is also called the Duratec 8V and is in some versions of the Ka, Fiesta (depending on country) and EcoSport. Key word, "cheaper". Also less powerful. I'm pretty certain (but I can't find the press release at the moment) that the Getrag PowerShift 6 speed was announced for the US Fiesta. Getrag has announced that they are building a factory in Mexico near the Ford facility. ... only that the USA version will be built in Mexico and available in 2010, which means MY 2011. Yep ! pcsario
Read the dateline ... LONDON I still believe my sources. At least at launch, the only available engine in the US will be the ROCAM ! Yep, unless I'm mistaken that engine was already being built in Mexico as well for the Ikon (sedan based on the pre '02 Fiesta), it is somewhat noisy but matches the FE of the Yaris. When the article mentioned "performance engine", they meant the most powerful engine available for the regular car... remember, sub-100hp engines are standard fare over there. The performance model is the ST, which has 150 HP in the outgoing car. Honda is planning a hybrid Fit... so yeah, I wonder if Ford is planning to match that or best them with a hybrid diesel.
