Great news!

Maybe they could hang a Merc treatment on the Mondeo.

In the EU, it's a Ford Mondeo; in NA, it's a Mercury Mondeo, with the Platinum Ford EU interior, it becomes the Mercury Mondeo Voga. So it may be more expensive because of foreign exchange, but IMHO, there might be a surprising market, especially if they federalize a diesel, like the 2.2, which they could also offer in the Transit Connect.

Probably not, at least not with the current Mondeo. All of these Euro Mercury rumors place the product in the time frame where the mondeo/fusion, focus, etc will be global products. Mondeo Mercury, yes, but by that time the Mondeo will be the same as the fusion. Same goes for the Eurofocus Mercury. Maybe we will see a mercury based on the same platform as the european focus, but by that time the NA focus will also be on the same platform.

I hope it will be called the Milan not the Mondeo. Milan sounds a lot better and since the car has a good reputation there is no reason to change the name again.

New Sable maybe?? :shades: Then re-intro Milan on a Mazda3 chassis.....

Actually, I was thinking the Milan would be on EUCD, like the Mazda6 (one of the best-proportioned mid-size sedans on the market), as per Mondeo. Seeing as how Milan is a very European name, it somehow seems appropriate.

What to call a C-class Mercury, then...

If they do a 2-door targa version, it needs to be called "Capri."

That was a very nice photo-chop, BTW. I really hope Mercury keeps FoE's "kinetic" design theme fairly un-bastardized.

Essentially, Mercury is getting a re badged next-gen Focus, nothing earth shattering about that. This will be the first new Mercury nameplate however since the Milan and it will be curious to see who overseas the design of the car. Mercury has been very loyal to its look, perhaps the only brand in Ford that is consistent.

It's still unclear exactly what Euro cars Ford is getting, all we know for certain is the new Focus and Fiesta.

Not mine, I remembered seeing it here on these forums and found it on AutoBlog so I brought it here for another "look-see" since it was relevant to this thread. But I agree, it was a nicely done photoshop.

How about this? Since the Mondeo and Focus are coming in the next couple years, why not bring over something like the C-Max or S-Max as a Mercury?

The car needs to be built and engineered locally to control cost, quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. These are the principles that will always remove this possibility, particularly with Ford which is very fiscally conservative.

Ford has product coming, give them time to get it right.

Since Mercury's entry level trim and price are much higher than Ford,

perhaps an earlier introduction from Europe is possible, a precursor to the coming Fords?

It would also add to Mercury's new image, completely different to existing Ford NA models.

Don't they use the same best quality plastic trim of a Euro Focus thats already coming then JPD?

How well did the Mercury Mystique sell in the US last time around when Ford had the Contour just interested, did it work?

I suffered a 1996 Mondeo LXI hatch - Never again, Belgian quality my ass!!

Are the top of the line Titanium Mondeo and Focus trims better than that?

I'm sure they beat the Mexican Fusion/Milan plastic.

Last time Ford sold the Mercury Mystique & Ford Contour in the US was in 2000.

Mecury Mystique - 1350 sales a month

Ford Contour - 3750 sales a month

The difference is just amazing :hysterical:

That's not even a 2000 Contour. Those look even more like the Mystique.

In the end, this article tells us absolutely nothing we didn't already know.

- Did we know Mercury was going to start getting new small cars? Yes. That means they were getting a version of the new Focus.

- Did we know the Kuga is likely replacing the Escape? Yes. So if Mercury is getting a replacement for the Mariner, it will obviously be a version of the Kuga.

- Did we know that the Fusion and Mondeo would be a shared vehicle in their next generation? Yes. If the Milan is getting a replacement, it will be a version of the Mondeo also.

Nothing like rewording old news to make it sound new again...

Um, given how much more interior room the C1s have over the old escort platform, perhaps they should dust off the "Topaz" name again. I believe that the size class won't be much off from what it was at the end (more interior room for smaller exterior length). Granted, as bad as the Tempo was, I don't imagine those that remember the topaz having very fond memories of that either.

Or they could call it the Lynx... just don't call it the Tracer.

A Mercury version of the Focus is a fantastic idea.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... Mercury can be a useful near-luxury brand for Ford. And all those luxury car fleet sales should be done as Mercurys to preserve the prestige of Lincoln.

Definitely if Honda can sell the Acura EL/CSX, Ford can sell a luxurious Mercury version of the Focus.
