The idiocy of a compact Lincoln

Recommended Posts

Yeah. And *YOU* live in Maryland!

FJM, the next time you feel obligated to pontificate on what Americans are doing, look at these pictures and ask yourself if you really know what you're talking about:

You don't get it.

What this a smoke screen whats it gotta do with Lincoln who need a compact car Richard, all that shows me is you are all time poor, cash poor & heath poor not the life l would want to live that life.

We have the same as that here Richard and more, you don't have roundabouts because a Camry would not be able turn around on it because it handles like a drunken pig could not handle it, we also have Autobahns in Europe not US straight 56 MPH snail lanes.

We can live a free life a normal life here we don't need 2000 bodyguards & SWAT teams like Obama has every time he goes to the loo.

British Prime Minister David Cameron on the way to work - time rich, cash rich & heath rich commute.

Neither would I. My commute is typically about 30 minutes each direction, with very little stop-and-go. It's a rather enjoyable drive on most days. ENJOYMENT from driving? What a concept. I'll keep my V6 and V8, thanks. :shades:

No.

No, you don't, and it's not even close.

There are 300M people in America, 55,000 miles of interstate, 160,000 miles in the National Highway System and 4,000,000 miles of roads. The US is the 4th largest country in the world by land area, and the 3rd largest by population. Americans drive an aggregate total of about three trillion miles per year. Do you grasp the size of those numbers, FJM? Of course you don't.

The average commute of the average American is 30 minutes.

There have been five assassination attempts on US presidents in the last fifty years, and the sum total of IRA bombings fall well short of what happened on Sept. 11.

You will not see me pontificating about what *you* should be doing with your life, FJM, or what Britons should be doing in their country because I have no point of reference.

Perhaps it would be best if you avoided preaching about what Americans should do as well.

Here's a little tidbit.

Since 2000, Americans have driven from Earth to Proxima Centauri.

Stop and think about that.

I'm not boasting about consumption patterns in the US--I try to live with as small a footprint as possible, and I think people in general would be better off if they did so as well.

But it's something you need to understand, unless you want to sound like a thorough idiot.

See, this is why someone from a relatively tiny overcrowded island has a completely different

view of the world and they can't hope to fully understand what living in a BIG country is like.

That view is not reflected by others on here who live in lands where driving distances can be huge.

Australia falls somewhere in between, cars and fuel are somewhere in between USA and Europe and

since the distances traveled are similar to the USA, with higher fuel costs, there's a tendency to pick

more fuel efficient versions of vehicles across the spectrum.

That does not give us license to tell Americans how to live their lives or what vehicle choices they should be making.

Awesome post. My stepfather is from England. When his daughters and sons-in-law come over, they just can't get over how FAR everything is. I live in a small town of 4500. I work in the 3rd largest city/metro area in WI (Green Bay---with a pop of approx 102k and a metro area pop of approx 200k). EVERYTHING is "Green Bay". Going to the movies, going shopping, whatever. The distance from my house to Milwaukee, a trip I make 25 times a year (or more), is basically the distance from my relatives' house in England to London.

Putting it in perspective: England (not the UK on the whole) has the land area of Wisconsin, but a population greater than that of California! The point is: I don't WANT a small, underpowered, whiny car. I WANT a powerful, reasonably roomy, well-featured car because I spend a lot of time in it, because I HAVE to.

Basically, memo to FJM: YOU live THERE, I live HERE...it's my money--both for fuel and car payment, so let me decide how to spend it.

I don't think a vehicle surveillance database that would make George Orwell roll over in his grave and CCTV on every corner are the hallmarks of a free society.

My daily commute is 5 miles and takes 15 minutes to get there in a city of 250,000. I also lived in a city of 600,000 and my commute from the far reaches of the 'burbs to downtown only took about 25 minutes. Spending 4 hours a day in a car is far from the norm for the average American. I personally don't know anyone whose commute is more than 2 hours total per day.

In one breath you don't want to associate with Europe because you are in the UK, but then when it suits your purposes, you're all about being "European". Give it a rest, FJ.

You sure you don't mean "sepulchered"?

I was trying to be nice, y'know--'that other Eden, demi-paradise' and so on and so forth.

Especially since, well he's probably bummed out about the World Cup and because nobody thinks the English Prime Minister is worth assassinating.

  • 2 years later...

I stand by the assertions in the original post:

The Concept C was horrible. It's been canceled.

The idea of building some eensy weensy Lincoln and selling it below the MKZ has little sales potential, little profit potential, and has no business as a priority of the Ford Motor Company. It was certainly not worth closing Mercury for.

And you're just sore because you whiffed it big time with your simultaneous assertion that the Taurus X and Taurus shared a subframe and that no CUV can share a subframe with any other car because of ground clearance.

....Is there anyone here who thinks that a compact Lincoln can be profitable on volume similar to the A3? Not me.

And since I seem to be the only one that is concerned about this thread not being in the proper forum, post number 596 asks that question...why is this in the Ford Motor Company forum when there is a Lincoln specific forum for this type of question....

But post #597 asks: Was there a Lincoln specific forum over 2 years ago when this thread was started since Lincoln was really a big ball of nothing then? :)

the concepts C was released in 2009 it is now 2012 the styling language is no longer valid.

Can you say with 100% knowledge that there will not be a compact Lincoln sedan or MAV in the next 2 years? If so I'd like to know your source.

If there is a compact sedan or MAV will you eat your hat?

There are alot of assertions from you in this thread have been proven wrong.

That styling language wasn't valid the day they rolled that abomination onto the turntable. Nobody wants a Pacer with a formal roof, a bustleback, and split wing grille.

If there is any sense at Dearborn, the last thing they launch will be a compact Lincoln sedan.

As I said in the original post, people will pay a premium for a small BMW or MB because of ESTABLISHED BRAND EQUITY. How about you tell me what Lincoln has in the way of ESTABLISHED BRAND EQUITY, and show how that will convince people to pay upwards of $30k for a vehicle that seats exactly two adults comfortably. Or why people of any stripe would pay a dime for something that just about killed the American Motor Company.
