NickF1011
Thunderbird is to Ford what Continental is to Lincoln. Ah. Continental. Add that one to the list of vehicle names I hope never comes back. Maybe I'm the only one, but I have bascially ZERO fond memories of many of these "heralded" nameplates. I'm guessing I'm not the only one though. You know what they remind me of? They remind me of a time when the Japanese were overtaking the domestic automakers because we were building complete crap. I'm guessing a lot of people in my demographic (ie one of largest buyer groups) think the same of them. Deanh
Insiders say the TBird is coming as a Falcon-based 4door coupe / sports sedan and that a Bronco is under development within the T6 program. Im going to tell all my customers to buy ford stock....because they are gonna want to utilize X plan if these products are in the pipeline....YEHAH! Nice! Once these products are released, Ford should never, ever, be without the Mustang, T-Bird and Bronco!

Nick, We are about the same age, but at the same time....the Continental does has some nice history behind it...not what it did in the 1980s. Who wouldn't want a Modern Lincoln that was like this: Baby Boomers where younger when this car was out and about and they'd be the ones buying a Modern one. The Thunderbird was one of the cars that helped save Ford in the early 1980's...it started the Aero look on cars way back then

And it's not the cars themselves that I really even have so much a problem with. It's the name itself. Continental? It just sounds....well....OLD. Speaking of cars with a bad reputation: I wasn't going to mention it.
PREMiERdrum
As far as the T6 Bronco is concerned... FORD is set to develop a new sports utility vehicle (SUV) in Australia for international markets. Fresh from leading the design and engineering of Ford’s next-generation Ranger light truck – code-named T6 – Ford Australia has been tasked with spinning off a new off-roader from the Ranger platform, aimed at the Asia Pacific region. GoAuto understands the project will be headed by Ford Motor Company vehicle engineering manager and SUV specialist Todd Hoevener, who has just signed off on the all-new Ford Explorer launched this week in the United States. Mr Hoevener, an American born in Indiana, has confirmed he is coming to Australia for the new project, adding: “This is going to be fun.” Details of the vehicle, its projected launch date and production location remain secret, but Mr Hoevener’s seniority and extensive experience in midsize and large SUVs point to a major SUV under Ford’s One Ford global vehicle program. Ford Australia communications manager Sinead McAlary declined to comment specifically on the SUV project, saying only that Ford Australia had always said it would produce more than one model off the T6 platform. LINK - GO Auto (Austrailia) Now, it's pretty obvious that a new Everest (and possibly Territory) are coming off of the new T6 platform, but Hoevener's involvement points towards something else. I don't think he drives anything, if he did, he'd be way to big of a target for a Hellfire from a drone LOL
SVT_MAN
If people actually bother reading the article, they'll see which car is a better value. I'm thinking BMW drivers don't buy on value typically. If they did, they'd be pulling into a Ford dealership. Because the M3 was imperceptibly quicker around a track. And a road course at that. You could chalk that amount up to driver error. I think it's a huge compliment to the Mustang that it can run heel to heel with a BMW M3 to be honest. I consider the BMW M3 to a great car, just very overpriced ... That said, Motor Trend is obviously a BMW fan boy mag .... It also stops two feet shorter from 60 mph-a tie as far as we're concerned-and the GT really shatters the M myth on the skidpad. America's original ponycar manages to outgrip one of Germany's most iconic sports cars to the tune 0.2 second through our figure eight and by 0.01 g in lateral acceleration. Quite interesting that 2 feet in braking is a "tie as far as we're concerned" ... but less than a tenth of a second isn't a tie on the racetrack. Hmm. Ranks right up there with Chevy selling the Nova in Mexico. (No va means "no go" ... in Español ... ). Ah, the challenges of international marketing ... where even blatant mistakes seem like good ideas? SVT_MAN
Just watched the video of all this action on MT's site. Definitely worth a look if you get a chance. The funny thing is that the pro race driver says "God Bless America" and "That's a big win for the Mustang" ... but then MT chimes in and says that a tenth of a second is still a win. Lame. Mark B. Morrow
How about Thundercougarfalconbird? That would please both of us and keep the Mercury diehards happy!! That's a lot of letters for the back of the car. Besides what would the logo for a ThunderCougarFalconbird look like? Pretty scary I'd guess. 4d4evr-1
It's common knowledge that this is a huge win for the mustang. The crowd understands that the challenger has won and the challenger understands that as well, but we all know for the challenger to be awarded the bout he has to convincingly defeat or knockout the raining champ and the fact is the M3 is the standing champ. Who won the fight in Rocky, the guy who wasn't suppose to even be in the ring or the defending champ? Depends on who you ask, the bout was given to Apollo by the judges but the people already had there champ. Ford has been putting out some really quality products for years now but had been losing the war of perception, merely by the audacity of a consumer reputable publication putting the Mustang against the M3 has instantaneously put it above everything in it's class and altered the state of how it is perceived in the minds of Americans, would not have happened five years ago guaranteed! This..... Just think about the engineers @ BMW and what Ford did to them. 4D4evr
T'Cal
With a "lowly" Ford stacking up so well against the vaunted M3, imagine if FoMoCo built a Lincoln version off of this platform! With even half of the diffence invested in this platform, the much called for IRS along with other performance and luxury features could push it past the Bimmer. Lincoln could have a coupe, sedan and convertible a la 3 series. It could run along side the MKZ as the GS and ES models do at Lexus. While I love Ford's new 5.0 V8, a 400HP EBTT V6 would make the Lincoln unique.
