73 LTD
What date does production begin?
ice-capades
Ford's FDNB (Fleet Distribution News Bulletin) shows 2018MY Job #2 production for Police units starting on 02/26/2018 at Dearborn and 03/10/2018 for Kansas City. For regular production, Ford's treating the F-150 Diesel as a limited production matter with special allocation similar to the way Ford handles F-150 Raptor's, etc. I just checked Ford's Vehicle Locator and can't find any F-150 Diesel units in stock at any of the closest 600 Dealers from me. I'm not aware of any customers asking about the new Diesel option but only enthusiasts would likely know about it so far. From a Dealer's perspective, how do we sell the F-150 Diesel when we can't get them without the special allocation from Ford?
73 LTD
Disappointing to hear this Ice. This may force us into Super Duty if 150 diesel turns out to be a boutique trucklet. We need a truck soon with our Edge lease finishing up soon. Wife wont be happy.

Sounds like that's your best chance.
akirby
And/or get Ford to extend your lease.
Zippy557
Why wouldn’t they offer the diesel in the lower trim levels also and expand the market for the 150 diesel
YT90SC
Dodge didn't for the first few years with EcoDiesel too. I think you can get it in fairly lowly trim now. Ford will for the first few years I am sure, but migrate to the lower trims as demand is met. There will be a lot of people who will buy at the higher trims to just have the diesel. Zippy557
Agreed they will sell but why not just go to a super duty if you just want an xlt ... seems like you’re cutting out some of the market that don’t want or need the higher trims but would like the mpg and power of a diesel
itguy09
Agreed they will sell but why not just go to a super duty if you just want an xlt ... seems like you’re cutting out some of the market that don’t want or need the higher trims but would like the mpg and power of a diesel 150 MPG yes but if you live in an area like mine where Diesel is constantly about the same as premium any savings is quickly eroded. And if you want power for towing and whatnot, the Ecoboost 3.5 is where it's at.
Zippy557
The diesel will out tow the eco boost ... it will get better mileage toeing and hasn’t more power. My point is they need to put it in lower trims to open the market not just the higher end trim leVels

The extra 125 or so HP and more torque of the EB will only allow the diesel to catch up when the EB stops for fuel.
akirby
Sometimes a mfr doesn’t want to sell a lot of a certain component whether it’s due to CAFE or factory capacity or some other reason. They probably think that they can sell a bunch of higher priced models to those folks who just have to have a diesel F150, then offer it in lower trims later (unless it’s restricted because of the other reasons mentioned above).
YT90SC
And that is what the 3.0 is. The "gotta HAVE a diesel" powertrain. The regular 3.5 GTDI thumps it in EVERY way except MPG and you can buy an assload of fuel to offset the buy in premium for the diesel. Gas is usually the same price or cheaper in my area, especially at harvest time. Maintenance will be cheaper on the 3.5. Remember the diesel will require fuel filters, diesel fuel addatives in the cold weather and DEF. And no one has written in stone yet the recommended READ belt and timing drive belt interval on the diesel.
donjksr
I agree. The much higher price of diesel does not outweigh the 1 or 2 a month towing on the 3.
73 LTD
It’s a year later but finally got it and could not be happier for my needs.
Trailhiker
You can now order one in XLT trim. That should make it much more affordable & popular.
