2024 Hyundai Santa Fe

Looks like GM shared the Chevy truck T-square with Hyundai designers.

It's very Flex like, so I want to like it, but nah.

The front isn't bad. but the rear is weird.  Also, I'm not understanding why you'd give it round wheel wells and then put a fake angled wheel arches above that - why not just square off the wells?

Hyundai can’t help but throw in some questionable design elements into each of their designs. I don’t mind the front, but the rear end and those wheel arches are terrible. Interior looks good though.

I found Hyundai's design influence for the rear.....

The wheel wells situation is incredibly weird. I have no idea why you would do that. I also don’t understand why Hyundai mounts their turn signals so low on the rear of their vehicles. I find them hard to see sometimes.

With that said, I do like this, compared to most of the Hyundai designs. Regardless of some of the unusual design characteristics, I do think it looks upscale, and I am guessing it will sell pretty well.

I don't say this lightly, that taillight placement may be the worst looking design feature on the production vehicle so far this decade, maybe this century. I like designs they try new things, but there's sexy new, and hideous new.

The red extension on the sides makes it worse.

I guess Hyundai's new design language is going to be regurgitating 1980s concept car styling...

Yeah, I said that about the Ioniq models - that they have a heavy 80s look.

I guess they're thinking the 80s are back lol.

Well they did happen 40 years ago...I guess it would be like bringing back styling cues from the 1950-60s in the 1990s...oh wait...

Shhhh.  Don't bring up numbers like that lol

I'd argue the 50s/60s had style.

80s seems like a largely dark time style wise, especially automotive.  So many boxes and slab sided vehicles lol.

I'd say the 1970s had worst styling then the 1980s did-by the mid 1980s style improved, but IMO it had some of be best looking concepts cars in history too, from my memories of it. The 1990s where a bit overdone.

And yes time just goes by quicker the older you get. I still can't quite place how fast the past 20 years or so have gone!

I mean, it’s not like ford isn’t copying 80’s concept cars either ?

I dunno about that..outside of a very general shape...LOL

But Hyundai seems to be going whole hog with it down to the interior with chunky buttons. I like it but with the Santa Fe it needs some more tweaks to make it look less overwrought, esp in the rear.

Time to bring this thread back from the dead-

I randomly got a ride in a Santa Fe on Saturday-was a friends party and his wife's friend got one as a loaner and she took it out for a test ride.

Anyways-they don't look nearly as good in person vs photos-the car I got a ride in was Silver and black and looked better then the few I've seen previously on the road. The 8 bit graphics looking H tail lights had lots of comments from non-car people I was with (was in LBI with family when I saw the other ones)

The tech on it was pretty impressive-it had the 360 camera on it and the dash was sort of larger version of what is found in the 2024 Mustang. When you turn the signal on, you get a blind spot camera view popping up on the dash-which IMO could be more distracting then useful. The rear view "mirror" is actually a screen-which I really didn't like-it worked well but there was an ever so slight perceptible lag with the video vs reflective mirror. The gear selector is a weird block thing attached to the steering column.

Passenger side seat had plenty of leg room.

All this for $57K...

Funny, I had the same reaction to it. I thought I would like it more.

Apparently the Santa Fe is a lot more expensive than I recall. That isn’t cheap.

The really strange thing is that Hyundai calls it a compact CUV, when it should be considered a mid sizer (it is 190 inches long and 75 in wide, roughly the same size as say a Bronco or Edge)-so considering that, I don't think its too out of line for a top end model (which I'm assuming the one I got a rid in was)...they start at $33.9K

Bumping an old thread. I wanted to get some follow-up thoughts on this model now that it’s been out for a while.

Actually, I really wanted to like the Santa Fe, but after seeing several on the road now, I feel that the rear is very slab like and in many cases the wheels look cartoonishly small in the side profile, even on the most expensive versions.  I also haven’t gotten over the weird wheel arches as well.

Has anyone upgraded or downgraded their opinion on this one?
