I'm guessing the engineers had a pretty tight budget on the Ranger refresh and that's why the cab was carried over, however if you start stretching the cab way out without widening it it'll look goofy. If you also widen it a few inches while stretching it what's the point? You basically have built a 98% F-150. The Maverick actually has a little more cab room than the Ranger if you want a bit more.

The new Ranger is likely not doing that well because of a few reasons. Supply is probably the biggest one, but when lots are full of F150s discounts are available on them. Throw a more affordable Maverick under it and discounted F150 STXs above it and it has a very narrow market lane. I have a Ranger because it's what I consider to be the perfect size and capability for me, but I'm not your average customer.

Also, how about because the competition raised the bar and all of a sudden the "new" Ranger doesn't look so "new"?

If you’re shopping purely on budget, when you can get a lease on a Ranger for the same monthly payment as a better equipped F-150, why would you choose a Ranger? I’m willing to bet most people would choose the F-150.

Other considerations might be insurance costs, licensing cost in some states and physical size. If you already have a 3-row SUV or similar size vehicle the garage, opening the doors can be problematic.

That's my issue with shopping for the new Ranger... my garage can only fit 218in. length.  My options are limited.  I'm in FL, I will not leave a vehicle outside to fester in the heat and storms.  I never get how my neighbors will leave vehicles parked outside to rot in the elements, vehicles that depreciate and they are still making payments on, but grandma's "antiques" from Room's To Go, take precedence and take up their garage space.

One reason I like owning a van is being able to haul long items without having to make special arrangements.  I can load 12-foot long items inside with rear doors closed, so lumber, conduit, steel, or 12-foot ladder is no trouble.  This is all for personal use; I’m not a contractor.  I hope to downsize van and know occasionally hauling 12-ft items will require rear doors to remain open, but that’s OK if van is small enough to fit in home garage.
