To be fair, I'm conceptualizing a vehicle, be it a sedan or a hatchback designed to have a wide range out of the gate. To be profitable, to be designed to tie into things like brand accessories like the bronco is, just in hatchback form. I don't view it as a one to one, because if you look at something like a bronco, or a maverick, those were vehicles designed from the beginning to be differentiated, to be profitable, and aspirational. Even a base bronco is a special product. Whereas Ford seldomly took that approach with their sedans and hatchbacks in the N. American market. A bronco starts out as a special car, a fiesta or fusion starts out as a generic transportation pod that has compromised special variants added to it at some point. A focus RS might be fast, but it still looks like a potato like the normal focus does, it's just a potato with a big wing and large grille. It's fast, and fun to drive, but the interior is the same crummy interior more or less as the base focus. Starting with a compromised base model often leads to compromised variants. I don't want to see Ford bringing back another generic rental spec hatchback. I want something like their version of the Chinese su7 with American muscle car styling draped over it, or a new escort with stylish lines. Something that's a nice, aspirational product even in base form, that Ford can build upon with other variants, and that offers accessories straight from Ford to boost profitablity and product appeal. Some say that won't work, but we're seeing that the sedan and hatchback market isn't going anywhere. I don't want to see Ford return with a sedan that's just their version of a Camry. But if they return with something using CE1 that's an affordable, super reliable, comfortable car, and it also looks great and offers a lot of tech, I can see that bringing a lot of conquest buyers in for Ford. -
oh yeah that’s right. There were too many trims, IMO, especially since they built off one another

Or maybe because it's missing the engine?

I still argue that Mach E doesn’t replace Edge customers because of vehicle/seating height

I meant mainstream fwd sedans but wasn't specific. Those are also much lower volume than Raptors.

I’ve thought for a while now that Maverick and Bronco sport would be good global products

Audi A6 starts at $64K. RS6 starts at $130K. BMW 330i starts at $48K. M3 starts at $120K.

The Wildtrak was also available on the 2 door. -
Ford did the same thing to Black Diamond... started as its own trim but now it is a package on Big Bend. The original Wildtrak was kind of a niche trim level. It was supposed to replace First Edition as the top premium trim level and was only available with 4 door, 2.7 V6, auto, and mandatory Sasquatch package. It went away to make way for Raptor but it is back now as an add on for Badlands.
