P.S. — My point above is that if ultra affordable versatile platform will be shared between pickups and cars, and the car is actually “compact” similar to Bolt in order to keep costs very low, it would be difficult to turn into a 4-door pickup without having to stretch wheelbase to length of large cars.
Agree with your logic and math, but the Maverick is approximately 3 feet longer than a Chevy Bolt IIRC. That means a 2-door electric compact pickup with a reasonable-length bed could be a lot shorter than a Maverick. Maverick’s length is around 200 inches, over a foot longer than a Tesla Model 3. I was in my son’s model 3 last night and it’s much longer than I’d ever need from a car, or would buy again. Back seat and huge truck would go unused 99.9% of time so no need to be so large. A complete waste for many needs.
If Ford’s goal is to make an ultra affordable EV pickup available (even if only as an option), a 2-door with a +/- 5-foot bed and overall length around 164 inches makes a lot of sense to me. I view it as a Ford version of Slate, which probably won’t make production IMO. With companies like Rivian and Lucid still losing money it’s hard to see why investors would sink capital into a new startup. Granted, Slate is going after low-cost market, but other startups tried that too and failed. IMO It’s going to take a Ford or a Chevy to pull off affordability while also profitable. Something like Chevy Bolt revised to a pickup for < $30k may attract enough buyers.
The Capri EV having to share the doors with the Explorer EV is one of the reasons it looks awkward.
The lower Polestar 2 even looks more like a Capri than the VW Capri EV.
...the (last) real Capri
Military vehicles don't have to meet the same requirements as civilian vehicles...and JP8 is the primary fuel used in DOD tactical vehicles and generators when possible.
WOW, I am not sure all of this started with my post about transferring to OHAP, BUT Thank you ALL for replying... I was hoping this would snowball into a straight answer for me...
I tend to be heard.. LOL
Thanks ALL,
Walter
NOW someone GET ME TO OHAP PLEASE!! 😜
One thought I just had-a 2 door truck could share the same stampings as a van version if there was a demand for it Pretty much everything from the B-pillar forward could be the same, with just the stampings being different for a pickup vs the rest of the van compartment.
They do, but probably not designed for US/ US military regulations.
Ford has their 2.0 I4 diesel engines like the ones offered in the rest-of-the-world Ranger, the same Ranger the "FG-P Light Tactical Vehicle" is based on (below). "The JP8 fuel conversion allows the FG-P to run on all grades of diesel fuel and even jet fuel."
This has a "Silent Mode" which shuts off the combustion engine and switches to an electric motor that's good for speeds up to 20km/h (12.43mph).
